This is the team:
Darren Lockyer, (Brisbane), Michael Hancock (Brisbane), Mal Meninga (Canberra), Laurie Daley (Canberra), Wendell Sailor (Brisbane), Brad Fittler (Penrith and Sydney Roosters), Allan Langer (Brisbane), Bradley Clyde (Canberra), Gorden Tallis (Brisbane), Paul Sironen (Balmain), Glenn Lazarus (Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne), Steve Walters (Canberra), Shane Webcke (Brisbane).
Alfie got the nod at halfback (and deservedly so :D ), ahead of names like Ricky Stuart and Andrew Johns. Menninga was named captain of the side.
However, IMO, Steve Renouf should have been named in the centres ahead of Laurie Daley. Daley was a great player, but his best years were spent at 5/8, whilst Renouf was a virtual try-scoring machine in the centres.
I can't complain though - it's a terrific side.

I agree Renouf should of been put in the centres this bloke was an absolute joy to watch. I don't think Hancock should have been on the wing as I think Wishart was the winger of the 90's along with Wendell.

Wishart was a good player yes, but Hancock was better 297 games for the Broncos, 120 tries, QLD and Australian rep.
For you ignorance you can have another [-X along with a :-s topped off with a :-$ and sprinkled with some =;

It's a joke that you guys had the 7 players in the team that you did. IMO, the team should have been:
1. Mullins- O'davis piped lockyer in the test team in 98, that along with many other reasons, shows that lockyer didn't really make it big until the next decade. Mullins was a great player for many years during the 90's
2. Wishart.
3. Meninga
4. Renouf
5. Sailor
6. Fitler
7. Langer
8. Lazorus
9. Walters
10. Harragon- He was a great player during the 90's. He got prop of the year in 96. He played for nsw 20 consecutive times. Webcke like lockyer didn't make it really big until the very late 90's and into the next decade.
11. Tallis
12. Sironen
13. Clyde

LOL! Now tell all the Broncos fans what you thought of Wayne Bennett's playing career before I told you he was selected to play for Australia.

This guy also said that Gidley shouldn't be at halfback and buderus should be. 2 man of the match awards in 3 weeks and buderus is laying a great platform out of dummy half. Ah well at least I have a sence of reality in this day and age, compared to who was in the australia team over a decade before I was born.

its no surprise 2 me because in my opinon the broncos were the team 2 beat in the 90s
Alfie got the nod at halfback (and deservedly so :D ), ahead of names like Ricky Stuart and Andrew Johns.
Andrew Johns made his 1st grade career debut in 1994 in the absence of the regular half-back, at the age of 19. So he missed the first 4 years of the 90's and didn't even find his feet as a regular half-back until 95. Even being the best half-back for half the decade wouldn't have won him the spot in the 90's side.
The only real threat to Alf's spot was ricky stuart.

Yet Lockyer only made his debut in the mid 90's, didn't really hit his peak until 2000 but still made the team despite competition from Mullins, Brasher and Ridge.

Lockyer was fantastic in 97 and 98, though. He was a bit off early in 99, but came back well towards the end of the season. Having said that, I would have gone for Brasher. Mullins really didn't have the longevity to warrant selection, and Ridge was nothing more than solid.
The biggest blunder was the non-selection of Renouf, with Daley more a five-eighth, and Meninga a sentimental selection. Remember, this team was meant to be judged on 1990's performances (meaning Webcke shouldn't have been picked, either).

He had good 97 and 98 seasons but I don't think he was at the level that hes reached in the last 4 years which now has people ranking him as one of the better fullbacks of all time.
Renouf paid the price for the selectors wanting to accomodate Fittler. Daley should've been at 5/8 and Renouf at centre. Renouf was undoubtably the centre of the 90's, he was still right at the top of his game with the Broncos in 98.
