yeah i dont recall any fta on saturday last year

Just checked my 2016 ratings list, can confirm there was no Saturday night FTA in 2016.

I was under the impression that when the NRL signed its New TV deal ''1.9b'', the last 5 rounds would have Saturday night FTA starting at the start of the new TV deal which is next year.

Nine presser from early march.
Nine’s Wide World of Sports will once again bring you the biggest rugby league matches exclusively LIVE and FREE in 2017 with State of Origin I, II and III as well as the Telstra Premiership Grand Final – available only on Nine.

Also this year, Nine will broadcast the last five 7.30pm Saturday matches of the regular season, giving fans four matches a week LIVE and FREE as they cheer their team home in the run to the finals.

There was no sat nite on 9 last year. The tv deal is all over the place bits brought forward also 9 can show digital rights next season on 9Now.

Methinks those '7:30pm' matches will be more closer to 8pm so they can have their pre-game show

They may not have a choice if it's a fox simulcast
I don't think those 5 particular sat night matches are a fox simulcast, but are rather Ch9 matches with Fox using Ch9's footage. If anything, the Ch9 matches Fox have simulcasted have been with the Ch9 graphics. Ch9 don't broadcast matches using the Fox graphics and cameras.

I think from next year though, Fox will be allowed to use their own cameras and graphics for the Ch9 matches.

Sunday 4pm perth, Sunday 7pm or 6 pm after daylight saving on east coast perfect, Adelaide and nz2 give more flexibility again. Theres a reason afl can have fan friendly kick off times, different time zones give more flexibility. Cut sharks, they offer nothing to tv and bring in a new Timezone club. You know it makes sense.

So MNF used to get 300-350k per week on Fox.. and average about 12k crowds

FNF @6pm... averages 150-200k and on fox and gets crowds of about 9k..

And it has devalued out FTA rights, by keeping that 200k tied to fox all fri night, instead of a choice to go to 9..

This is a gigantic f**k up all round by NRL.. and 2 Sydney games to come.. in the wet

MNF averaged 278k last year, after three rds the Friday 6pm game has averaged 219k, maybe wait a couple of months for people to become aware of the time slot before judging it, especially considering for the first three rds it's been kicking off at 5pm in qld and has included two Australian sides only once, where it rated 274k, coincidentally inline with MNF averages, which never included the Warriors.

Yeah fair enough it is still early days.. but didnt the same MNF games kick off early in Qld too ?..

It's a worrying start, especially given the decline of Ch9 FTA figures, if FtA figures keep declining, we may end up in a place like RU..

Lets not kid ourselves, the 6pm game was dreamt by fox to harm ch 9, the old tv adage of stick and sit, (why does the ch 9 6pm news start at 5.59 ?? )

Its not a great situation for the NRL when your 2 broadcast partners, are trying to kill each other
