QLD lineup looks 10x better, can see usual transmission resuming here

Everyone is talking about JT and Slater, but Hess and Wallace will make a massive difference off the bench to the team

QLD still look outclassed in the forwards. Even if they get up and win game 2 (unlikely) it'll take a huge effort from their pack, and I don't think they could repeat it to win the series. But you never know I guess.

There's no way NSW win this as easily as game 1. JT and Slater back adds too much class for that.

Slater and Holmes bring in another dimension in attack options that were desperately missed in game 1. With jt there those no tries from game 1 become tries as that extra few fractions of a second or those few extra cms of space suddenly appear

And also the competitiveness, so much competitiveness

Slater won't find it as easy this time around - surely NSW have learnt how to deal with him.

We're playing non specialist centres against the best fullback in the game. That'll be a huge weakness on our part but with luck winning up the middle will help.

Gagai seemed more effective in limited space. Having said that I don't really care.

You asked the question, I answered it.

Seems quite ludicrous to drop a player who did nothing at all wrong, given the number of other chages and the famed Qld "pick and stick" mentality.

Anyhoo.....Blues by 7

Slater & Thurston returning is fine but if the Maroons are as soft up the middle as they were in Game 1, it won't make a shred of difference. Hope for their sake Hess does a job.

But hope for NSW's sake he doesn't.

I want to see a NSW win.But if Qld arse another win,it'll be good for the third game to be at least a meaningful third rubber.

QUEENSLAND MAROONS TEAM FOR STATE OF ORIGIN GAME TWO
1. Billy Slater
2. Valentine Holmes
3. Will Chambers
4. Darius Boyd
5. Dane Gagai
6. Johnathan Thurston
7. Cooper Cronk
8. Dylan Napa
9. Cameron Smith (c)
10. Jarrod Wallace
11. Gavin Cooper
12. Matt Gillett
13. Josh McGuire
14. Michael Morgan
15. Josh Papalii
16. Coen Hess

"as revealed by the courier-mail." we were saying this was going to happen for weeks. Got to laugh at all the numpties in the media having turnstile Gagai as a centre, Papallii as a starter again and not having Cooper starting in as the left-side forward. Do they even know anything about rugby league?

The only thing this doesn't tell us is what sides Boyd and Chambers will be lining up on, although going by the numbering, it appears Boyd may be on the right with Gagai? Surely Walters will have Chambers switching to partner Gagai and have his right-side club combo with Cronk in use?

the existing option of course is to maintain the bulk of the Roos left-side combo of Thurston - Chambers - Holmes. will be interesting to see how it plays out.

how the starting edges line up according to above:
cronk - gillett - (slater) - boyd - gagai VS maloney - cordner - (tedesco) - hayne - bMoz

thurston - cooper - (slater) - chambers - holmes VS pearce - jackson/frizzell - (tedesco) - dugan - ferguson

if game 1 is any indication, graham will come onto the left and cordner switch to the right mid-way through the first half.

i'd switch Boyd and chambers personally to have the latter bearing down on hayne and boyd on dugan. attacking-wise it looks better for QLD, but there are defensive aspects to consider. the anticipation of a boyd vs hayne battle would be huge though!!!

of course, this may all be null if QLD don't at least put up a fight in the middle.

bring it on, ay? looking forward to this one.

the QLD big men don't necessarily need to be equal or better than NSWs. if they can at least stand up to them and put in a fight, their halves and backs can handle the rest of it.

Gagai is good as a rep winger. only the media and their groupies were dumb enough to consider the turnstile as a representative centre.

and why would you move one of your consistently better performers of the last few games from the position he's been playing well in?

I don't know, maybe the greatest fullback of all time by the name of billy slater may do it?

Has Darius Boyd even played centre before? Whereas Gagai was probably Queenslands best in game 1, the more ball he gets the better for qld.

Boyd is fine playing wing. When you have Billy Slater out the back this whole argument is invalid.
