This forum is very depressing right now. Its way more fun when there are people posting positive vs negative and healthy debate. Now its just doom and gloom from everyone.
Geez I hope we win next week to bring this place back to life.....
Blame the Board for our doom and gloom not the fans - a once mighty club collapsing quicker than the Roman
empire is hard to generate positive energy and enthusiasm.

People look week to week and fail to see the big picture

The board wouldn't feel a thing. If they did, then he would have been sacked last year when there were options to replace him (Toovey, Cleary). The fact they shot their bullet early wouldn't even register as a problem because Doust has them hoodwinked
The Board are arrogant dinosaurs who think they are bigger than the club they are here to serve - they should stop and read their responsibilities and governance requirements but sadly that will never happen as there is no transparency or accountability in our Charter to protect the club from the rotten stench of c:...

They should make a press release explaining to the fans why they would rush signing McGregor mid season.

This is not the first time they have made this same mid season premature signing of an unproven rookie and every time it is a failure.

They need to be accountable for their decisions.

The key word here is "unproven".

Following Bennett's exit (and Price's failed, aborted attempt), the Dragons really needed to appoint an experienced NRL coach at time of rebuilding.

Paul McGregor isn't the right 'fit', and as a result, Saints are STILL in a redevelopment stage, and have been so since 2012.

Unfortunately, fans will have to endure the end of 2019 before any possible change can take place.

So the Bulldogs have re-signed Hasler to a 2 year extension & now have given him the ultimatum of making the top 8 this year or he's out!
Why can't our bunch of f**kwits, parading as a Board do something similar with Mary
McJetski? At least Des has made the semis every year & 2 GF appearances. Whilst Mary sprouts about taking West Wollongong all the way and being a part of Laurie Daleys Origin coaching team as a waterboy.
FFS even the Illawarra Old Boys club backed the wrong horse.......can they swap Mary for Barrett!

Why do we have a head coach who requires assistance (including the formation of committees) in every facet of his job description?

Objective View

Point taken ,however to answer your question , we ARE stuck with a coach for the next 2 years who simply cannot provide the expertise that is required for his team to be successful .

Knowing this mans ' shortcomings ' it would be only beneficial to all involved at the Dragons , to give some form of assistance ( wether he likes it or not ) to him .
Otherwise seasons 2018 - 2019 will also become ' write offs ' and that is something that no supporter wants .

Well said. The guy hardly has the brains to run the water. Talking to him, is like talking to a bucket of sand

Whatever happens I think Doust will use Mary as a sacrificial lamb if the team doesn't do any good moving forward.
He will use Mary to save his arse
Totally agree. From memory, when Price was coach & we were travelling very poorly, it was rumoured we didn't have the cash to pay him out. When the heat got too much Doust found the money as he will again.

False economy...
The sooner we go in a different direction the sooner we have a chance of stopping the rot.
2 more years of McGregor may cost the club much much more than getting rid of him now.
BUT at the same time we pay him out, we have to fire the smarties that signed off on his extension.
Someone has to be accountable for such a diabolical decision!!

Serious question. Is it always the coaches fault if a team isn't performing?
Raiders, Dogs, Dragons fans all calling for coaches to be sacked.
Browny has the best job in the nrl. No expectations. He's won like 3 games in 2 years and he is doing a great job according to most. Maybe thats why cleary took the tigers job. Lost 7 in a row and nobody said he was a shit coach.

Serious Answer - in brief YES
But this is mitigated by the roster the coach has to work with.
If you compare Brown and Cleary's roster to ours, you have your answer.
In my view it is not a matter of "fault" in McGregor's case.
I am sure he has his heart in the right place but he is out of his depth.
He is not qualified to be the St.George Head Coach.
It is really that simple.
The real fault lies with the ones who appointed him in the first place and then extended his contract.
All most of ever wanted is some genuine accountability because from that, we have a chance to improve.

The coach sets the game plan and instructs the players accordingly. If the game plan sucks then of course its the coaches responsibility, if the players ignore the game plan than the players are responsible (although sometimes it does work out better re Sharks game last year.
The coach is also responsible for team selection, picking players in wrong positions or who are out of form or injured is 100% the coaches fault.

So what's happened to Ricky Stuart? Last year he got Daley M coach of the year. This year the fans are calling for his head? Same group of players.

So Dogs rubbish form this year is Des Haslers fault? Souths form is McGuires fault? Whats happened to those coaches? They have won premierships? Why are they so shit this year?

As I said, game plan. The coaches you mention run the same game plan week in week out. Opposition coaches can workout their game plan and play them accordingly. Unfortunately for us McGregor is void of ideas as well.
Smart coaches like Bellamy and Bennett adjust game plans to each team they play, that's why they are continuously successful.

So which clubs are happy with their coaches right now. Clearly the Dogs, Rabbits, Raiders, Dragons aren't. What about Warriors, Titans, Penrith? Knights don't care because their roster is shit but surely tigers are under-performing with that roster to lose 7 in a row?
So maybe Storm, Sharks, Broncos, Roosters are happy with their coach. But then those teams have superior rosters to all other clubs?
I reckon its an easy job to coach the bottom teams like knights given nobody expects a win and easy to coach the top teams like Roosters given their roster advantage. The middle of the table teams all want to sack their coach...........

Interesting question, Crusher. I tend to go with yes. Someone has to be accountable both good and bad. The buck must stop somewhere and the coach is the one that dictates line up, tactics, motivation, guidance and training regiment etc .

Have to feel for the Knights against the dogs. Should have won that. It could be worse for Saints, they could have Coach Brown and Brock Lamb in the halves

I don't think its all the coach.
Last year Raiders had an easy draw, they got a roll on and then their confidence was up. Ricky won coach of the year. This year their draw was harder, they have lost some tight ones now their confidence is shot. Same roster. How much of it was the coach last year and how much is the coach this year?
The coach plays a role of course but he is merely one piece of the puzzle IMO.
