St Marys will feel some consolation from the progression of Penrith to the NSW Cup GF with today's winning side containing 8 players that have worn the Saints colours this year.

Mason Cerruto, Maika Sivo and Tony Satini played a significant number of games for St Marys while Tom Eisenhuth, Christian Chrichton, Nick Lui Toso, Oliver Clark and Corey Waddell also appeared at times.

in an interview on the NSWRL website, Wenty captain, Taniela Lasalo describes the Auburn pack as the biggest he has even seen. This could be a big disadvantage in the heat expected this weekend.

Ron Massey Cup Grand Final Captains Lasalo and Clark Look Ahead to the Decider

Yet to win a Ron Massey Cup title in the club’s history, the Auburn Warriors go in search of a maiden premiership when they take on the Wentworthville Magpies in the competition decider at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.

Though playing without fear, the Warriors will fancy their chances of upsetting the favoured Magpies outfit, having shown no signs of stage fright in dismantling the 2017 minor premiers St Marys en route to a grand final berth.

Finishing the regular season with nine wins, and nine losses to their name, Auburn’s mid-season rise from 10th to finish Round 25 in sixth caught all by surprise – except the Warriors themselves.

“In July we were coming last, a credit to the boys and the coach, our self-belief was unbelievable. We stuck at it and things turned around,” Warriors captain Jamie Clark tells NSWRL.com.au

Their title hopes bolstered by the red-hot form of ex-NRL players Matt Utai and Omar Slaimankhel inspiring their side from the back, Clark says there’s no reason why he and the Warriors can’t make history this weekend.

“He’s slick, Omar. What he’s brought to the team, he’s a big key for us at the weekend.”

The Magpies though also hold handy ex-NRL talent, not least in the form of their hard-hitting captain, Taniela Lasalo.

Playing 40 NRL games with the Parramatta Eels in 2009 to 2014, Lasalo is aware of his side’s need to find yet another gear, despite heading into the grand final on the back of two commanding finals wins.

“Our defence has been solid the last few weeks, we can score points, but it’s our defence that wins us games,” Lasalo said.

“When we played (the Warriors) at (Ringrose Park) a few weeks ago, we won on the buzzer. I told the boys, I hope we don’t play those guys again.

“It’s going to be physical, but it’ll be enjoyable as well.”

Wentworthville have featured in six Ron Massey Cup Grand Finals dating back to their first appearance in a decider in 2003, having won four titles.

In a daunting omen for the Warriors heading into the decider, Auburn has not defeated Wentworthville since 2014 – falling twice to the Magpies in their two clashes this season also.

Key Match-Up: Josh Minhinnick (Wentworthville) v Addison Demetriou (Auburn)
A head-to-head battle featuring an abundance of size and speed will be on show when Josh Minhinnick and Addison Demetriou clash at Leichhardt on Sunday.

Crossing for a hat-trick in his side’s Finals Week 1 win over Guildford, Minhinnick looked a threat at every opportunity against the Owls, and again is set to be a handful for his opposite number in the grand final.

Demetriou meanwhile tops the try-scorers list (15) for the Warriors this season, five clear of the next best in Manaia Rudolph, who has 10 to his name.

Where It Will Be Won
Expect both coaches to be stressing the importance of their sides defence at the weekend, such was the sentiments echoed from their respective benches in Week Three of the Ron Massey Cup finals.

Both Wentworthville and Auburn boast a big, strong and fast ‘back five’, who so often get their team’s sets off to a rolling start.

The work of the middle forwards in limiting the metres earned by the opposition backs will go a long way in swaying the result come full-time.

Heres how the @WentyMagpies and Auburn Warriors made it to the #RMCup Grand Final:

I hope Mounties play RL and don't continue with their usual less pleasant tactics

Wenty finished the season in great form, winning all 3 finals by more than 30 but it has to be said that the Auburn team from the first half of the season was on show yesterday exemplified by dropping the ball on the kickoff at the start of the game, failing to find touch from a penalty that would have given them their first ball of the game, instead resulting in a try to Wenty and then Slaimankhel and El Zbediah crashing into each other on a high ball that gifted Wenty another try - 20-0 after 18 minutes, game over.

Darren Baker has been appointed as head coach of the Penrith Brothers, who will be playing RMC and SS in 2018. They went through the A Grade rounds undefeated before St Clair put 40 on them in the GF. There were a few sets of brothers in the team - 4 Farkas, 2 Tuavao and 2 Peake.

St Clair backed up from their first A Grade title in 2016, having previously come close on a few occasions, including when they had 3 former NZ internationals in the side in the late 1990's.

2 players from SS competition have been included in the USA World Cup squad - Corey Makelim (Mounties), who made his debut in the qualifiers and Dave Marando (Belrose), whi also played in the 2013 Cup. They will be joined by Danny Howard (Wenty ISP/RMC), who will also be playing in his 2nd world cup along with his twin Stephen.

Would be nice if there was some official news coming through about the structure of this comp next year - I was under the assumption that the Shield comp was being dissolved, yet Brothers have apparently joined it.

I guess there would have been an announcement if the SS was going to be abolished but probably nothing to announce if it is business as usual and lets face it there are 13 clubs that want to play in this comp and the role of the administrators is to provide a structure to satisfy the clubs' requirements.

Yes this season just finished, however, the redesign was discussed back in November/December last year when they were talking about possibly eliminating the NYC for a state-based 20's competition.

The lack of official statements from the organisation allow the dirtsheet ramblers to spread their wild theories. Make something official and then the speculation can stop.

They just finished the season, sheesh.

Rugby league,.one of the few sports were the competition structure is only known a month before kick-off. This is bread and butter stuff for sporting bodies everywhere, the structure (and clubs within) should be set in stone for years if not decades at a time.

Info' from the NSWRL is that the entries for the NSWRL competitions will be completed this month with the draws released end of November early December.

Does anyone know whether Penrith are going to use Brothers as well as St Mary's to feed their 20's and Nsw cup teams , or just St Mary's ?

Have heard Pat Weisner has been appointed as RMC coach at Asquith Mapgies for 2018/2019 seasons.

So with Asquith back and Brothers in that will make at least 12 in RMC providing there are no dropouts.
I presume Weisner will bring at least 20 players to the club.
