Depends how you measure success.

I can’t recall them ever going through a 5 year stretch of mediocrity like we have recently. They are always there or thereabouts competing for the comp. Whilst we are nowhere.

But I get your point, I’m terms of comps, I think they have under achieved given their resources. Hence I don’t think they are mucking around any more. It’s comp or bust.
True, but we played in 77, 79, 85, 92, 93, 96, 99 , 10 and won three, they have won 2 and i think far less GF's than us...point is we are f**ked but still have better overall results since 1976.

But that's the thing. Yes they won the spoon in 2009, but they were in he GF the year after and won the comp a few years later as part of a stretch of 3 straight minor premierships.

Since 2011, we have hovering between 8th and 13th without ever being serious contenders. As fans, I think its sad that we haven't had a team to cheer for deep in the semis (like Roosters and Cows, Storm etc).

I'd take a spoon one year if it meant 4-5 years of continued success with multiple top 4 appearances. Much better than our situation where we never have a team in serious contention to win the comp.

It's been 5 straight years of shit for us.

ROOSTERS PLENTY OF NON EXISTENT YEARS, 90s you say 5 years? try 20, 80's through 2000 was a disaster, i still say since we played them in a grand final in 1975 and we have bragging rights in 2010, we did way better overall...and probably far less spent, again money is needed but they have proven than you cant buy a comp....when i say buy i mean BUY, i meant lots of them and then brag...they really havent won much.

Premierships 13 (1911, 1912, 1913, 1923, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1940, 1945, 1974, 1975, 2002, 2013)
Runners-up 15 (1908, 1919, 1921, 1928, 1931, 1934, 1938, 1941, 1960, 1972, 1980, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2010)
Minor premiership 19 (1912, 1913, 1923, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1937, 1940, 1941, 1945, 1974, 1975, 1980, 1981, 2004, 2013, 2014, 2015)

from my point of view 1966 was the year I enjoyed watching the roosters play.

I understand your point of view, but supporting a team of players like Cronk, Tedesco, JHW.....and numerous players bought from many other clubs.

Seriously, as a supporter I would not feel any connection whatsoever to support them.

It's a foreign legion of players I have grown to dislike at other clubs for years. (Not all of them I dislike)

Fans, need a sense of connection to the players, a club with some loyalty to its fans and players, a club that does develop some of its own players.

All these things the roosters have a big fat ZERO.

That is why they can't drag more than 8,000 of their own fans to games.

That is why they have never built a sustainable culture for success.

Being a fan of a club like that?

PUKE!!!!

I would much rather be us, the mighty dragons, a club with SOUL.

.....we will be fine once the club works out we need a professional coaching team.
You're so right. I much prefer our born and bred juniors.

Like:
Dugan
Thompson
McCrone
McDonald
Lafai
Mann
Widdop
Mcinnes
Vaughan
Packer
LAM

Thankfully there's also been a homecoming for two of our favourite sons in graham and hunt.

You do realise up until the we got this pathetic board, we produced the most juniors to play first grade in the history of the game (together with Souths I have to add)

And our 2010 premiership winning team was stacked not with rorters, but with JUNIORS.

And there IS a bloody BIG difference between signing the correct number of players WITHIN the salary cap.... versus rorting teams like the Roosters... who just keep on signing on $$$$$$

But yes, with our current club leadership our juniors are suffering, going to other clubs.

It used to be considerd embarrassing if we didn't have 6 - 9 local juniors in our first grade team.

Still....I am proud we don't just keep on signing on like the roosters, and cheat the game like the storm did.

Once this board gets the heave ho
one bright sunny day, our kids will thrive again.

With all due respect, this statement is not entirely true. Millward has signed up the majority of our promising juniors and we currently have the best crop of juniors coming through our ranks .

I Agree with your sentiments in regards to the board..they need a broom put through them.

Wtf? I just heard on 2GB that Roosters are now in the hunt for Chrichton.
How the f**k????
Seriously the NRL has no control over the cap and the rife roorting.

I'd say we have the cattle to win the comp. Picking up Wamsley or Crichton would improve our squad and make it a little easier to win a few close games.

Our problem over the past 6 years has been the coaching staff. Hire Hasler or Madge and bingo our backs will fire and our forwards would not burn out. With either of these two guys, the Dragons would easily make the top four and possibly the GF.

I would not worry about the size of Jayden Morgan as others have not been massive:-
Barry Beath 180cm 95kg
Bruce Starkey 180cm 89kg
Robert Stone 178cm 89kg
These guys won premierships in 1977 and 1979 and were not cream puffs being as tough as teak.

Different times IMO, Marketo I think was about 90kg and it’s to small for a back rower. At that weight you are easily dominated. In today’s game you need to be about 185cm minimum and about 100 kgs to play backrower.
