I’m gonna start this off with a fun fact about this ground, and I don’t need to go back far

Last test here was in early Jan 2018 SA v India. Was a low scoring test, no side managed 300. And both sides bowled out for 130 odd in their 2nd digs. AB top scored for SA in both their innings. Steyn played in this match.

SA won by 70 odd runs, philander skittled through them when they only needed low 200s to win.

I don’t fancy our chances tbh...

interesting to see what change we go with if Mitch Marsh isn’t fit.

Not sure Handscomb adds a lot tbh.

We look a batsmen short all of a sudden.

Handscomb will be a waste of space for mine if he is picked, but he will be cause he is the back up batsman. We shouldn't be needing a 4th seamer on this deck, we need batters

Hopefully K-man has found a bit of form and can contribute, and also just as hopefully a big Smith innings is here. SMarsh is good for one great innings per series, don't think he has had that yet

9 days before the test, there is time to fly someone over. If we are allowed a replacement for a injured player? (who is gonna volunteer to break MMarshs thumb to make it official??)

Just so youse know if Australia end up winning this series it doesn't count because Rabada didn't play the remaining matches and they still deserved to be bagged relentlessly.

You going to call them donkeys and everything?

If levers is out, is it Stoinis time? Or the Big Show, or Wadey the great with his handy seam up grass cutters?

Smith needs to stand up here, he has been ordinary by his standards

Everyone needs to stand up, not just Smith. No one has made a hundred across the two tests compared to 2 by SA.

We were expecting an even contest and we've got one

potentially no Mitch Marsh

and also very unlikely the great Nugget Wade will play a test here

Id say South Africa are the ones who deserved to be bagged if they cant win it

;)

Stoinis hasn’t score any runs in shield and neither has Cartwright who isn’t really an all-rounder anyway.

Jack Wildermuth is the in form fast bowling all-rounder in the shield atm but there is no way he’ll be picked. Wouldn’t be surprised if our selectors even know who he is...

yup looks like Stoinis will be the one (if MMarsh isn't right in a couple od days or so but Boof thinks he will be ok)

Marsh, who also forfeited 20 per cent of his match fee for swearing at Kagiso Rabada after the South Africa fast bowler dismissed him yesterday, has been a pivotal player since he returned to the Australia Test line-up in the middle of this summer's Ashes win over England.

Since that Test at the WACA Ground in Perth, only skipper Steve Smith has scored more Test runs for his country than Marsh's 471 (at an average of 67.29) and the allrounder is also his team's second-most productive batter on the current tour behind opener David Warner.

He has also claimed three valuable wickets at a cost of 15.67 runs each in the current campaign and, given the absence of a genuine allrounder in the Proteas' team, he stands as a crucial point of difference in a series characterised by reverse-swing bowling and middle-order batting collapses.

"He's close to (having) made our most runs," Lehmann said of Marsh's importance to Australia's team balance and output.

"We haven't had a lot of runs in the series so far, but he's looking as good as anyone at the moment.

"(With the) ball he was important for us with those couple wickets late on day two (at Port Elizabeth)."

Marsh also claimed the scalp of South Africa century-maker Aiden Markram at a vital stage of the opening Test at Durban which the tourists won by 118 runs, and his absence would leave a significant hole in Australia's starting XI.

Should he remain under an injury cloud as the third Test draws nearer, Western Australia allrounder (and ODI capped) Marcus Stoinis looms as the likely ‘cover player' given his dual capabilities as a middle-order batter and seam bowler.

Stoinis, who has shown impressive bowling form since returning from international duties to the JLT Sheffield Shield competition last month but has not posted a first-class half-century this summer, is in Adelaide with his WA teammates preparing for the Shield match against South Australia that starts tomorrow

I just went to see how many runs Stoinplod has scored this season. The list on Cricinfo goes down past guys like Joe Mennie all the way to Warner on 188.

He's not on it. Just wow. 158 runs and 8 wickets, welcome to the test squad son!

But they’ll still insist their is no boys club...

Wildermuth’s stats for the hell of it, 24 wickets at 22.95 and 433 runs at 30. But let’s go with big levers big unit big Stoin.
