Their defence was a lot better last game albeit with the Knights scoring a couple of runaways.Might have something to do with Host , Sele & Lawrie in the side. Interested in seeing how Hubert goes at fullback and Masters at Centre ( which I think is his best position , he can throw a pass is strong but a bit on the slow side )

Give me Johns any day 160 plus metres 75 post contact against knights and still a 20’s player. Potential for sure

Yes-Johns, like Aitken, is strong through the thighs and hips and can break tackles. On the other hand, Herbert is a great passer of the ball - he put Pereira over in the corner a couple of times against Wests with laser passes straight onto his chest. Herbert is only relatively short and slight in build so maybe 5/8 is his best position.

Speaking of shortness, it seems to be a backline problem with SGI apart from Nene. Aitken, Nightingale, Dufty, Mann and the ISP backs Herbert, Pereira, Tohi are all short in an era when outside backs are going tall, athletic and strongly built. Lomax is tall but a bit off a stringbean. The Warriors wingers are examples of that as is Melbourne's Vuliasu.

Yeah you are correct.
Pereira is 182cm
Mann is 184cm
Herbert is 181cm
Garrick is 188cm
Masters is 183cm
Lomax is 190cm

in saying that:
Aitken is 182cm
Gypsy - 183cm
Nene - 192cm
Lafai - 184cm

We would be only replacing like for like atm, no real tall timber.

Other than kowtowing to Channel 9, is there another reason why a reserve grade game has a ridiculously early 1pm kickoff time?

I'm fulminating because I work in North Sydney, but don't finish until 2pm on Saturdays, so there's very little point in going to Bear Park just to see only 20 minutes of football. I can't win either by going home as I'll miss the broadcast on tv.

Frustrating!

Well, if true, that's quite vexing.

What the hell does Channel 9 show at a more viewer friendly 3 o'clock time slot? (Reruns of Friends?)

I agree mate channel nine run the place.
I think there is two reason.
1st Qld have there Q cup game at the same time.
2nd nine in Sydney has live netball at 3pm so that my be why.
The whole isp comp is being run incorrectly in my option.
All games should be played before the nrl not all over the place and seperate day ect.
When you play a team that doesn't have a team put on jersey flegg.
But the nrl and nsw rugby league can not get it right.

I agree, I predict Lomax and Johns will be our centres after 2019. Sailor will have to wait until Widdop retires before getting a run at the Dragons in the 6 jumper. I'm not sure where Masters or Herbert will play if they stay at the Dragons. I suppose either Herbert or Lomax may end up at fullback if ever Dufty vacates the job.

Johns and Herbert are not contracted past this season (although both should be).
Aitken and Lafai are contracted until then end of 2020.
With McGregor you know we will get the same roll-out every season. The only position in the backs that looks like coming available will he Gypsys wing spot. Given that McGregor is already using Mann in a questionable capacity as a small forward, the most likely will be Lomax to that wing.next in line then will be Nene whose contract expires at the end of next year. Also given is that none of the remaining players are tall (the next tallest is at 183-185cm) and Nene over 190cm I cant see them replacing him either, unless the buy from outside the club. But that too would place the current juniors further down the ladder.
A couple of clubs are looking for cheap young players to fill their squads, Dogs and Knights have openly admitted to this.
I just hope Millward is looking inward not just outward and not let the good juniors slip through.......again.

Dragons have signed the young winger from St George SG ball names Jason Saab for 4 years. He is six foot five, nigerian father and fast. watch some of his highlights. He is the starting winger in the under 18s state of origin in Melbourne next week. I think two years 20's and then development as only 17. will play or at least train with 20's this year. I hope he makes the transition as he is very similar to Nene in height now just needs to fill out as he gets older.

Starting 13 as named. A couple of changes on the bench with Kerrmit the log replaced by Pia Sokobalavu and Uele replaced by Ryan Fletcher.

Who replaces Hunt? IMO has to be a specialist half and that means Nicholls, he impresses me. So in that case where does Mann play.
