The Bears will be back in the NRL before the Melbourne Storm can boast to have two players born and bred in Victoria in their NRL squad
Weird deflection

But anyway
There's atleast 4 that i can tell in the extended squad this year

Where are the bears?..

The NRL booted the bears not Melbourne, get over it. The sooner they give up and become a feeder club for Manly the better it will be for the league as a whole

Let's break down the bs from the Bears:
Billy Moore claims that what the Bears bring in is without risk because they already have 220,000 fans ( the geographical area of North Sydney)
^this is all they are proposing to bring to the table!
No millions in funding or sound business case.
So to the 220,000..
Not all people like women actually follow rugby league , some people prefer soccer ect and some people don't even like sport, so conservative estimates there's maybe 80,000 rugby league fans there... that for almost 30 years..wait no that brings it down because young people weren't around when the Bears were about 40,000 rugby league fans for 30 years haven't watched rugby league and are only waiting for the... wait.. surely some have moved on....in 30 years! 10,000 rugby league fans ready and waiting for the Bears ( keep in mind that probably a couple thousand will have passed by inception)
8000 fans ready and waiting- no risk!

That's just it. it's been 24 years since the Bears last season in the top tier.
That's a generation now that has moved on.

I can't remember there being any big noise in 2007 (24 years after THEIR last top tier season of 1983) about bringing Newtown Jets - another "Foundation club" - back into the top tier - the landscape adapted to their absence & people moved on.

Parallels there too, in that Newtown tried to relocate but it all went pear-shaped for them....

And you are actually listening to Billy Moore hahaha, great player but when it comes to listening to what’s happening I’d wait until Daniel Dickson talks.
Sure the Bears would pack out North Sydney Oval but that would be no different than 20,000 in Canberra or at Cronulla.
But you are right another 20 years, most of the old players and fans would have moved on, and the Bears will be considered a new brand as they virtually are now to many young fans.

Sad part is I actually like the brand, same as The Jets but it's over unfortunately.
I'd love the game to be pro active though and use those brands.
A 9's comp at the end of year or something.
With concussions now a stand down of 10 days, we should have a week off before the grand final.
In that weekend we could hold a 4 day 9' invitational.
500k to spend on players not in the finals
Bears
Jets
Reds
Rams
PNG
Fiji
Samoa
Tonga
Mackay
Cairns
Something like that 🤷‍♂️
Could be very cool, have a draft where they pick their team as a reality tv show.
But I dream lol

Imagine if every club got the leg up the Mexicans have received since they have been in the NRL.
Debut season 1998, teams like the Western Reds and Hunter Mariners were punted to make way for the Storm allowing the Storm to pick the very best players from both squads which gave the Storm a fairytale entry into the NRL.
In Melbournes first 10 years they ran at a heavy loss each season but were propped up by owners News Ltd and let’s not mention the two sets of books when optioning their illegal premiership victories.
Ah yes the Melbourne Storm, 25 years in the State of Victoria and they still haven’t developed a player in their current NRL squad born and bred from that State, that’s pretty embarrassing for a club that frequently turns fringe first graders into superstars.
Maybe focus on your own cheating club before kicking the Bears while they strive to survive.

Can the NRL just PLEASE give us some certainty on the whole Bears rigmarole?

Either give them a clear destination & conditions for a licence, or tell them in no uncertain terms to forget it.

I'm just tired of all this desperate pitching of their brand to everywhere.
But then what will we do for a laugh when we no longer get annual North Sydney/Regional NSW / Central Coast / Gold Coast / Perth / Christchurch / Pasifika / Brisbane / Adelaide Bears articles????

They've produced quite a few Victorians and the pace is picking up

Plus their Jersey Flegg and SG Ball sides are filled with Victorian players coming through playing in the best development systems in the world (referring to both the NSW RL comps and the Melbourne Storm).

Very weak production line, all islander boys with no skills and who are also in the rugby union system.
I know a lot of players who have come through Melbournes program who now are playing in the NRL Scotty Drinkwater and Nicho Hynes, the latest being Jonah Pezet, another Central Coast product.
Melbourne play in the Southern Zone of the NSW Country Championships and have had various success.
My youngest sons team played them in the Country Championship Final where North Zone plays South Zone, the Melbourne team were huge full of islanders, we pumped them by over 40 points.
A month later my son was playing against VIC in representative Rugby Union and he played against virtually the same players.

Mate ..Melbourne has a population of 5 million. Bigger than Adelaide, Perth , North Sydney and Central Coast combined!!
Surely as a Rugby league fan you appreciate the importance of having a presence in that market..?
Think it over.

So Islanders born in Melbourne aren't Victorian?

We started from scratch in 1998 and now the production line is starting to fire up, it's a good outcome for the game. Even better that it is the Melbourne Storm moulding the best of them into NRL players.

You’d think after 25 years, with their onfield success and with that population the Storm would have made more of an imprint in the State of VIC or are you just being like Billy Moore in quoting population figures that don’t really give a shit about your team ?
