Just hope we get two different GF's this year!

ba ha ha ha ha... once again SPRLC have 'bought' one hand for the trophy and by the looks of it NBRLC are doing the same (AGAIN)

We'll see how Ryan Grundy will do as a coach at Beach, a good player but as we've seen in the past, a player doesn't always make the cut to be a coach.

Just checked the WARL Betting Odds and its 1000/1 for any other club to be in the final. Who wants on...

Tips:

Fremantle WONT lose for the Ken Allen Memorial Game.
South Perth to win only just against a red hot pre-season training schedule by new training manager @ the Titans.
Beach to smoke the Bears
Sharkies will touch up the Giants.
Warriors to lose after senior management is still away on travel & work committment.

We lost 44-16. After leading 10-4 20 minutes into the game we let a very well drilled rockingham side get on top of us, think it was 22-10 at halftime?? lots to improve on but I'm confident we've got the players to do big things in this years comp!

Anyone else sick of seeing willagee consistently getting 100 points put on them?? Would it be better for them to be dropped back to ressies?

i listened to a replay of League Talk this morning and the boys said that they have a coach from the Gold Coast and they are going to bring 5 or 6 players across as well. If they haven't come across yet, hopefully they can become more competitive for the WARL competition, if they have arrived they could be in for a long year.

One is for sure Willagee are always financial, if they can afford the First Grade fees and they are happy enough with their First Grade performance I can't see why they or the WARL want them relegated to Reserve Grade.

Yesterday was the first First Grade game in about 3 or 4 years while I throughly enjoyed watching the Bulldogs beat Freo. There is still a us against them approach. It still looks like South Perth, North Beach, Rockingham, Joondalup and Fremantle are the 'golden childs' of the WARL and have been for the past 10 or so years.

From what I have heard and seen so far this season the Bulldogs are doing the right things both on and off the park. So hopefully that can turn around for the Bulldogs this season and the hard work from the committee, coaching staff and pjlayers can finally pay off and turn the competition on it's head and surprise a few people, like they did yesterday (apparently??) but I can tell it you it wasn't a surprise from the Bulldogs club.

I know it's the first game of the season and there will be a few speed bumps throughout the year but after a few posters on here declared the Bulldogs no chance yesterday and coming out, playing well and winning hopefully it sets up the season.

Anyone know why Willagee's Reserve grade side was infinitely better/fitter/faster than their first grade side yesterday?

Willagee Ressies beat Beach 32-26 (there or there abouts). Were a long way in front and withstood a bit of a comeback. But that team looked like a first grade side....

Yea I noticed that when they played rockingham in the pre-season. I think they have a lot of guys backing up for firsts so that could be a factor?

Watched Fremantle Vs Kalamunda
& Rockingham Vs Giants.

Good to see Kalamunda get up, unfortunate on Ken Allen memorial day for Freo, but good for the competition. The Bulldogs have a good team cohesion and if they can keep injury free and keep the majority of their players (the WA job enviroment is very tempting to alot of players) they can push for the finals this year. Their halves played an excellent game, and although it was the first game of the season, they showed great maturity in pushing their team around the field.

Was a bit disapointed overall with Fremantles performance. Some big efforts from the usual suspects, but they lack a dominant half and are missing a bit of mongrel in the forward pack. Prob did enough to win yesterday anyway, but great marks given to Bulldogs for toughening up, something they would not have done in the last few years.

Overall the game was what was expected in a round one clash. Some minor flashes in brilliance led to tries, but defence was quite good.
Also note - Freo were very good in reserve grade. Will be some knocking on the door of firsts.

In the Sharks Vs Giants game, Giants looked like the better side for the first 15 - 20mins. Along with some mistakes and well deserved penalties, they led 10 -6 and it probably should have been more. Then they let their foot off the gas/ran out of puff/lost their way and ended up getting well beaten. They have what looks like a dominant forward pack, but have no punch out wide (apart from the biggest redhead centre ive ever seen, who was bigger than everyone out there, and their fullback). Thier halves really played well for 20mins and then when their team looked to them, they dissapeared.

The Sharks started sloppily and looked like they were in for a long night, but came to life towards the end of the first half, and dominated the second period. Thier forward pack, althought not big, were very fit and fast, with good footwork in the middle of the field. Will be interesting to see whether they can shape up to the bigger packs of Beach and the Lions. Their centres were fantastic in Attack and Defence and looked dangerous all day. Their halves really benefited from the great forward play and looked dangerous by taking the ball to the line (which the Giants halves should have done more).

All in all, the Giants have plenty of promise and the Sharks look like they will only get better. time will tell.
Note: Sharks reserve grade look very strong again. Will be pushing for 1st grade spots even though 1's got up.

Round 2 Tips

First Grade

Kalamunda Bulldogs Vs South Perth Lions
Had to go with Lions. Bulldogs showing great heart with a first up win, but will have to do it again and again to be given credit. Lions by 18

Fremantle Roosters Vs North Beach Sea Eagles
Look for the bounce back effect here. Roosters will be angry they lost their Ken Allen day and will want to get some respect back. North Beach off the back of an easy win may not be good for them. Fremantle by 4

Willagee Bears Vs Rockingham Sharks
Unfortunantly that is enough said. Sharks by 100

Goldfields Titans Vs Joondalup Giants
Probably going to be the match of the round. Watched the Giants last week and although they looked good, also heard good things about the Titans valiant loss to the Lions. The Titans to be too strong at home. Titans by 6

Second Grade
Kalamunda Bulldogs Vs South Perth Lions
Fremantle Roosters Vs North Beach Sea Eagles
Willagee Bears Vs Rockingham Sharks
Southwest Warriors Vs Joondalup Giants
