    The Case for Adelaide.....

Love your work mate. I've spent a lot of time in Adelaide and I reckon it's a great city. It's kind of like a sleepier version of Melbourne that isn't under the pretentious delusion that it's Paris or Rome. Having watched the A-League team there play out of Hindmarsh stadium (although admittedly...

    2020 R14 Sat - Cowboys 30-31 Rabbitohs @ QCBS

Agree, but those always get called penalties and frankly it was just unnecessary from Feldt. He should have just got up and got back onside. But that didn't lose the Cowboys the game - they lost it by effectively deciding not to put an ounce of pressure on in defence when they had a 6 point...

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

I honestly wonder how long he’ll stay committed... I know a bloke that worked on his campaign to end slavery and he was ultimately very disheartened by his experience, saying that him and his team put in a tonne of work with key stakeholders across intergovernmental authorities and then at a...

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

We'll never know how GRR would have faired over a longer period, but its ratings were pretty meagre in its first iteration last year, which wasn't surprising given it always looked like a frankenstein job designed as a life support system for the Force with no long term plan. It didn't include a...

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

It's more than that in Japan - Union in Japan is also just an old boys club internally. All the big unis play it, with the Keio and Waseda rivalry being akin to Oxford/Cambridge in terms of rivalry, and so their alumni that go into the corporate world see it as a kind of status thing...

    Expansion Team Names

I think Victoria definitely needs another team at some point, but for us to get to that point, the Storm need to be sourcing their juniors primarily from Victorian feeder clubs. Even then, I wonder if it should be a second Melbourne side or one based in Geelong.

    Expansion Team Names

Agree with all this. Never understood why every side in Queensland has been named after an NFL side when there's so many great alternatives with names that would have greater local significance. Brumbies, Stockman, Jackaroos etc would all have been better. The Gold Coast is definitely harder...

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

I wouldn't worry - the great thing about Union juniors is they make a great feeder system for the NRL ;)

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

I just think you assume a higher level of capability and interest from the bloke than he's actually got. Part of me would also curious to see what it would look like for him to take over the game, but to date the "rapid rugby" nonsense he came up with doesn't inspire me with much hope. In...

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

Like I wrote before though, he’s not going to be able to do that for long. Nothing he has proposed remotely addresses the underlying problems with Rugby in Australia and a Frank Lowy like sugar hit isn’t about to change that. Indeed, at least Lowy had a plan to address some of the problems...

    NRL Expansion. Ideas and opinions.

Agree with a lot of this. My only point of contention would be the NZ 2 side. I think you'd be better off basing them in Christchurch and making them the South Island Bulls. The Bulls are an established identity in NZ RL and they'd have an instant rivalry with the Warriors given that NZers who...

    NRL Expansion. Ideas and opinions.

Always a fun exercise: 1) Brisbane Broncos: QLD Suncorp 2) Canberra Raiders: ACT 3) Sydney Roosters: SFS 4) South Sydney Rabbitohs: SFS 5) Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs: Liverpool/Belmore 6) Melbourne Storm: Aami Park 7) Penrith Panthers: Panther stadium 8) Manly Warringah Sea Eagles: Brookvale...

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

Union is a lost cause. The centre of gravity remains firmly in NSW for the game, as does the real money (i.e. the type that doesn't do it out of charity), and here the game is on the bone of its arse. I say that as someone that - unlike a lot on here - has no hate for the game as I played both...

    Union's Loss, Leagues Gain?

For the most part no, and not just because you simply could never make Brands like the Waratahs and Reds Rugby League brands. The only area I could see some potential for this to work would be in convincing the Force to switch allegiances, but I think the window for that has now passed...

    New logo

Thanks! I've been evolving this thing for a while as a lot of you guys know. Initially started out with some more like the centenary badge, but over time have just gone to a slightly tweaked version of the '78 design, but with more modern trimmings and a nod to the old school badge which had...
