2024 Jerseys, Sponsorship, Logos discussion etc

I said something of substance. . . Raising a few grand in a charity auction isn't something of substance. Giving them a solid percentage of sales, a genuine platform to promote themselves and what they do, and the freedom and help to collect donations at the ground and during the broadcast as...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Hate to have to be the realist in the room, but it's not particularly promising at all. The Liberals aren't getting in, so you can throw any talk of Civic straight in the bin. There's nowhere in Civic to build a 30k stadium anyway, not without investing hundreds of millions into tunnelling and...

2024 Jerseys, Sponsorship, Logos discussion etc

When was the last time a club's 'community based initiative/civic based' actually did anything of substance to support their cause? Like when was the last time an e.g. Indigenous round raised real money for charities that actually do something other than "raise awareness". The honest answer is...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Origin attracts it's audience in a completely different way than internationals, or it did at least. Heritage rules and other nonsense are slowly f**king it up as well. The old boys club in NSW simply don't understand it like the Queenslanders do. You didn't actually read my post did you...

    PNG's back.

All of them sound like long term relationships until the club sends over some donated jerseys and balls and calls it job done.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Because they're uncompetitive and there're no draw cards to attract people through the gates. The main attraction to internationals in other sports is that it's a rare opportunity for fans to see household name star players that they wouldn't normally get a chance to see play against each...

    PNG's back.

Has one of these style of international partnerships ever achieved significant results? I can't remember one amounting to anything more than a media release full of vague and grandiose ideas, only for it to quickly be forgotten about. More often than not they seem like a patronising virtue...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

That might be true in NZ, but in Australia RU has been a broken and uncompetitive product for 20 years at this point, long before CTE was a widely recognised issue.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Utter nonsense. RL should be learning everything it can from RU's mistakes, not trying to mythologise RU's current predicament into a nonsense narrative where we pretend it's some kind of victory for the sport.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I didn't say they collapsed in a vacuum, I said that RU is struggling because of multiple factors almost all of which are totally self inflicted. SR's crowds were already in steady decline for over a decade before the NRL started 'booming' as well.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The AFL and GWS would have little trouble finding a new partner for them. NT, Ballarat, Cairns, Newcastle, NZ, etc, all of them are potential partners. They may even be able to do things like sell their games against Tasmania back to them. There're plenty of options. The AFL can also easily...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Why would they admit something that isn't really true? World Rugby and the NH unions are destroying the on field product. The ARU and SANZAAR have consistently mismanaged the sport locally since the 90s. The AFL, basketball, and soccer are steadily swallowing up RU's traditional juniors base...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

None of the AFL's major stakeholders are up for another expensive expansion project like that at the moment. They'd revolt if the AFL tried it on. Wouldn't rule out the Suns relocating to Brisbane if they're still struggling in the next decade or so though.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Canberra wouldn't be particularly risky at all. Canberra is similar to Tasmania in that it'd almost certainly be more successful than GWS and the Suns from day one. It's potential ceiling is lower than GWS's, but it'd be a safer bet. There're markets other than Canberra that GWS could pick up...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Put simply, GWS is the only option for people in Canberra who enjoy AFL to attend live matches without traveling. On top of that, buying a membership is cheaper than purchasing the tickets individually and most of their matches here sell out these days, so buying a membership is the only way to...
