Voges has had the best season of a batsmen in a long long time, very impressive from him.

WA took over 200 overs in a 4 day match to lose 4 wickets for 480-odd.

Now Victoria in the final have batted for 153 overs to make 381.

Ray Illingworth would blush at some of the stonewalling we've seen this year in the Shield.

Slow batting by the team that only has to draw is expected in the final, but in the regular matches it is unforgivable. I don't know what the reason for introducing bonus points was, but if it was to encourage attacking cricket it hasn't worked.

The same tactics were used against them in the final. Had they had a bit of a go in the previous match maybe they would have had the advantage in the final.

Clearly bat has had too much of an advantage over ball in this tournament. The previous summer, the Shield was played on greentops. I think teams occasionally getting bowled out for 150 is better than teams batting for 200+ overs. The winning team in the Sheffield Shield batted for 249 overs all up, at just a shade over 2 runs an over. If they should wonder why few of their players get selected to play for Australia, look no further.

At the same time this match was being played, we saw NZ score 299 runs off 43 overs against a world class bowling attack in front of 45,000 people.

Disagree. Good bowling was still taking wickets this year. Just putting green tops rewards bowling that won't be so effective at inernational level. Our batsmen had no confidence whatsoever in the greentop year.

There's always concern over the battle between bat and ball not being even, and often at international level it goes in the bat direction, solution is not shifting it too far the other way at domestic level though.
