Learning the ropes from the master

Anthony Watmough has potentially played his last game in the NRL due to a chronic knee injury but he is still having an impact on the Parramatta Eels.

In particular, Tepai Moeroa – the man who has inherited the blue and gold No.13 jumper.

The 20-year-old has been getting all the pearls of wisdom from the 300-game player on how to play a position he has never played before.

“Choc [Anthony Watmough] has been great in giving me pointers and tips to improve and learning my positional play and where to be,” Moeroa said.

“It’s all the little things like leading the defensive line, learning to play big minutes with a huge workrate and support play.

“We have a lot of experienced players here and I’m trying to learn as much as I can.”

Moeroa is benefiting from a specialised pre-season schedule that was designed to improve his troublesome left shoulder that plagued his 2015 season.

“I basically spent the whole pre-season strengthening my shoulders to get ready for the new season,” said Moeroa, who has played 36 games since his debut in 2014.

“It has allowed me to focus on learning my new role. At lock you have a licence to roam, left and right and can pop up anywhere. I’m just taking it week by week and looking to improve.”

The Junior Kangaroo also has a new pre-game ritual courtesy of his new cornrows matchday hair style.

“I get my hair done in the morning and that usually takes 30 minutes and I usually have a walk and get some lunch,” he said.

lol....Can you imagine tough blokes like Brian Hambly, Ronny Lynch, Bob O'Reilly getting their hair done for 30 minutes on game day....

I couldn't believe when I saw him running to get into the backline when we were setting a scrum near our line.

So then it wasn't a surprise that they ran around him a couple of seconds later to score that try.

Why put a cumbersome backrower in the backline defensively is beyond my comprehension.

Who the hell thinks a guy that has lateral movement deficiencies should be out there?

What the hell?

I thought it was whilst Normy was in the bin. Probably Manu or Kenny should have been defending, can't remember who was out there at the time

With Norman off the field, whom would you have defended on the left, three in from the sideline?

Both were defending four in on their sides, though I agree Ma'u probably should have swapped with Moeroa, at least at that scrum. Lessons learned.

Mau is a lot more mobile and probably should of even the man, but Tep won't be the last person who gets burnt for pace by Morgan. He is lightning.

It didnt even habe anything to do with lateral speed or whatever physical shit ... tepai had him covered just go sucked in by a dummy runner back on the inside and stopped chasing, thats all morgan needed, he probably would have burned norman if it was him too ... it was a bad read not a physical deficiency

.

Well, even if Bob O'Reilly did want to get his hair done good on game day.....is there any way you could possibly stretch the job out 30 minutes? :)

And the additional space caused by the missing defender with the man in the bin.

As pou said, hopefully lesson learned.

Especially by Norman in the first place)

True. And Moeroa was probably let down by whoever should have been pushing from the inside.
