Do well to match the episode with the Brit PM but looking forward to it.

It's kinda like The Twilight Zone. Each episode is stand alone with different actors and storylines and is speculative fiction focusing on near future situations involving pervasive technologies. The series was created by Charlie Brooker who is well known UK media critic.

You don't have to watch the episodes in any order. I'd recommend starting with the Christmas special episode "White Christmas" which has Jon Hamm in it. Probably amongst the best episodes of any television series I've ever seen.

I'm still waiting for season 3 to hit the usual sites... very aggravating!

Just got through the first episode, Nosedive. The satire is sharp and on point. A society that rewards people based on their social media ratings, with every interaction that people have with one another fake as f**k with the objective purely about getting the best rating possible.

f**k I love this show.

Just finished season 3.

The episodes Nosedive and San Junipero get a perfect 10/10 from me, which is pretty impressive in the case of the latter because I normally find Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire) so irritating that she ruins my enjoyment of everything else going on. She was perfect here.

The only letdown was the episode Playtest which didn't quite reach the usual standard of quality one would expect from this series.

The social commentary in this show is so compelling that, just like the last two seasons, each episode sticks in your mind and leaves you with a real sense of uneasiness concerning the way technology and social media has infiltrated our daily lives. Two episodes in particular, Hate of the Nation and Shut Up and Dance deal with online trolling and hate mobs in ways that are (mostly) not all that unrealistic and also seemingly inevitable.

9.5/10 for the whole season. Everyone should be watching this show.

I've only seen season 1, and it was great, so I'll have to catch up.

But the episode you've described there sounds eerily similar to this article I read yesterday:

China’s plan to organize its society relies on ‘big data’ to rate everyone

That's almost exactly the same. The only difference in the episode is that people rate each other. Talk to the wrong person, get rated down. Blow smoke up someone's ass, get rated up.

Ha well there you go. Pretty spooky and disturbing.

I loved the ep from season 1 where everyone has the implanted chip that records 24/7. Can totally see that too becoming reality sooner rather than later, and can totally see people driving themselves batshit insane by obsessing over playback moments.

The media didn't miss the connection either. One of the articles I saw about what was happening in China used an image from that same episode of Black Mirror.

There's so much from this series that I could go on about endlessly, but the one thing that really stuck with me was the episode 15 Million Credits where they'd actually have to pay to *not* see porn. Crazy!

Just came across this on Netflix a few days ago. Managed to watch every ep in season 2 and season 3 now. Absolutely amazing. White Christmas, San Junipero and Playtest (acting was poor, but the story was great) are some of the best television I've watched in a very long time.

I've watched the first two episodes of season 3. I preferred playtest, didn't see anything wrong with the acting either.

Playtest worked well as a horror/suspense story but I didn't feel it was providing any kind of deeper meaning or social commentary about anything in particular which is what I normally like about this series.

Nosedive on the other hand I thought was a great spin on our current social media society. The final scene with the two characters screaming at each other from their cells was brilliant, as you could tell they were enjoying being able to say whatever they wanted without any fear of reprisal in the way of being downrated.
