Trial team week 2 V Parra

The Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels have named strong sides for this Saturday's trial match at Pepper Stadium.

The Panthers have named close to a full-strength side, with Kangaroos Trent Merrin the only big name to miss out. Bryce Cartwright will start at lock with Te Maire Martin joining Nathan Cleary in the centres.

Meanwhile Corey Norman has been left out of an otherwise strong Eels line-up, with Kaysa Pritchard edging Isaac De Gois and Cameron King to the dummy-half role.

Panthers team: 1. Matt Moylan (c), 2. Dean Whare, 3. Waqa Blake, 4. Tyrone Peachey, 5. Peta Hiku, 6. Te Maire Martin, 7. Nathan Cleary, 8. James Tamou, 9. Peter Wallace, 10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard, 11. James Fisher-Harris, 12. Isaah Yeo, 13. Bryce Cartwright. Interchange: 14. Mitch Rein, 15. Leilani Latu, 16. Sam Mckendry, 17. Moses Leota, 18. Dylan Edwards, 19. Corey Harawira-Naera, 20. Sitaleki Akauola, 21. Tim Browne.

Eels team: 1. Bevan French, 2. Semi Radradra, 3. Michael Jennings, 4. Brad Takairangi, 5. Josh Hoffman, 6. Clint Gutherson, 7. Troy Dargan, 8. Suaia Matagi, 9. Kaysa Pritchard, 10. Tim Mannah (c), 11. Manu Ma'u, 12. Tepai Moeroa, 13. Beau Scott (c). Interchange: 14. Nathan Brown, 15. Kenny Edwards, 16. Daniel Alvaro, 17. Frank Pritchard.

That's a monster bench for the Panthers. Will be interesting to see how many minutes everyone gets if we just use that 21.

My guess is that both Moylan and Wallace spend some time in the Halves, the Centres and Wings get swapped around, and we run Akauola and Leota at Lock instead of Prop.

Nice to see CHN get a run too. I thought he regressed a bit last season playing in a fairly ordinary NSW Cup team, but he looked good in the 9s.

2. Dean Whare, 3. Waqa Blake, 4. Tyrone Peachey, 5. Peta Hiku

That's one way to fix the problem. Is Merrin injured?

Is Ben Cartwright related to Jed and Bryce? Cause if thats the case then we've got 3 cartwrights playing 3 different grades

Except DWZ will be there and sometime mid-season Josh Mansour will also.

It works for the trial when Mansour is injured and DWZ is absent for whatever reason. But at some point an international player is going to be getting cut. Unless it's Blake... but I don't see him being dropped.

I was joking. Should have put a little smiley face.

So both wingers are gone for the first 3 weeks atleast... and looks like our returning centres will replace them.

I would prefer to see Dylan Edwards take one of the spots. If Hiku is good enough, being a specialist winger he should get the other spot but Whare's defence would be an asset.

Whare is wasted on the wing. In fact, he's not very good at it. I haven't seen Hiku play on the wing, so no comment. I have seen Blake play there, and that is a big no.

So I guess I would go with Hiku and Edwards...and see what happens.

Hiku is more suited to the wing than centre I reckon given his shoddy defence, he is a quality attacking player and spent time on the wing at Manly.
