High Performance Update: Charity Shield
Wed 15th February, 04:00PM
A A

St George Illawarra Dragons Head of Athletic Performance Nathan Pickworth has provided another High Performance Update ahead of the Charity Shield.

In this edition, Pickworth updates Dragons members and fans about the health of Matthew Dufty and Drew Hutchison (both knees).

"Dufty had surgery on Wednesday and is feeling really, really good. The swelling is pretty much all out of the knee and he started on the bike three days after the surgery, " Pickworth said.

"We'll be looking to have him running later in the week and push on as quickly as we can with him.

On Hutchison, Pickworth added: "Hutch is almost eight weeks post-op and he's looking good. He has good knee range and doing leg weights in the gym and we'll be looking to have him running in the next couple of weeks."

Pickworth also provided a general update on the team’s health following their 10-point win over the Wests Tigers in the i98FM Challenge.

"They pulled up really well. We had no injuries out of the game against the Tigers," Pickworth said.

"All the boys pulled up pretty good. A couple of them lost a bit of body weight playing in the heat but they have all recovered from that."

Dufty's injury looks to have been relatively minor. Super progress if he will start running later this week.

Great to see Hutch making strong progress towards recovery. If he does start running within 2-3 weeks you would hope he will be ready to play by mid season.

Would love to see both these juniors given the chance to play FG this season.

I think the forwards went okay so Young gets the bouquets. The backs were garbage so brickbats go to Head, Hornby and McGregor.
With three former backs as coaches how could they get it so wrong?

The backs have zero chance of success playing outside Widdop at present.

6 is the problem.

Come on DR who did the forwards monster yesterday?
Who did we pick up and smash and made sure they had a quiet game?
We had 54% of the ball for god's sake and still come up well short.
The bunnies pack out performed us easily.
It's just that our forwards were better than our backs so nothing too exciting there.
Cement shoes for all the coaching staff.

Young usually takes the credit for a good defensive display, so not such a good day for any of the coaching staff. Why as a former international centre, Mary can't get the outside back selections and structures right. And why can't Hornby being a premiership winning halfback coach our halves to success.

The reason to all of this is a good or great player does not automatically translate to being a good coach. And our Board has not valued experience but expensive NRL coaches over cheap old boys who say they can coach.
