My sources tell me the problem is that Peats' manager is valuing him and trying to sell him AS a SoO quality hooker.

Problem is of course that Nathan HASN'T played SoO. He has been on the cusp for 3-4 years as the 'next NSW hooker' but has been injured too often for NSW selectors to take the risk that he will get through 3 x 80 mins of the toughest football in the world. Until he proves he is resilient enough he won't get picked for Origin.
And if Wallace gets the nod this time around, Peats' won't get into Origin IMO and therefore his price is too high.

I reckon Parra have valued him similarly to the Titans at $450k but his manager is playing hardball and wanting more.
Makes sense.

The fact they are still talking about Wallace and Farrah says he isn't rated by the coach as a great hooker. It is not like these two guys are superstars -One never was and the other is a has been.

Wallace is off contract after next season. If he was allowed out end of this year would you want him for two years? He would be 32 and 33 the years he played. And I reckon would be a lot cheaper then Peats.

It makes sense but I personally think his a must.

Unless we go after Lichaa?

We know what we are gonna get with Peats his leadership in defence and his line speed is awesome and is a huge reason why I feel our defence is far off from that of last year's.

His a risk no doubt injuries have plagued him, but for what the market offers I really think he would be a great acquisition. His service at times isn't great but we have all seen the difference his made to the Titans since returning, if there were other options available I wouldn't be so pushy on getting him but there isn't much and he has all the qualities to be a SoO hooker, injuries are his issue. No questioning his ability. His pricing is an issue but personally I think we are desperate for another hooker so I would give him the 500.

Yeh, but if you sign a 2 year (or longer) deal, with such a clause, and let's say PEats doesn't play 20 games in 2017, but does play 20 games in 2018, it would be added to the cap expenditure in 2019. When a bonus is achieved but wasn't expected it is added to the following year's salary cap value for the player.
Do you mean if he had match payments in both contract years or irregardless? And how do you know this?

hopefully all this opinionated talk just spurs the kid on. say what you will but I definitely see a drive in him to be competitive and succeed. time will tell I guess

Canterbury are the team you want to target if you need a prop. Plenty of big boys they'll have to lose someone.
You sure about that Stevie? They have a sombrero and still sell plenty of jumpers without banking much re Seaweed days.

He's trying to get Peats or Lichaa (yuck, but whatever). Plus they are working on Semi to come straight back after his one year deal (and rumours are working on him to backflip entirely but I'm not sure how true that is).
Peats is too injury prone for me, yes a good buy but perhaps not value for money.
Semi, if comes back, will return around June next year.

Plus there are plenty of approaches that we never find out about, and we don't yet know what's going to happen with the Dogs. We lack a 6 and a 9. He is chasing the better 6s and 9s on the market and has landed one of them with plenty of rumours the other will also sign....
We need more than a 6 or 9, we need a 8 & 10, a couple of hard nuts with some size would help. Think BA already has his 6 although I have doubts on Moses and we are looking at 9s, Lichaa and Rein have been mentioned.

This is incorrect. A player's cap value is known entirely before the season starts, even if he has match payments in his contract. The only time it changes is if the player signs a new contract.

Yeah that's what i'm trying to say but I probably didn't put it clear enough. The money potentially to be given for match payments would still take up the cap space.

My point was that you know in advance how it will affect your cap, regardless of how many games he plays that year. It's not a case of being unable to play him in that 20th game because it'll push you over the cap that year. His cap value was determined the previous year.

And that's why I have said it's not really a viable contract clause.

Just offer him $50k more a year than the titans are offering, remind him sydney is his home, tell him they players want you back.
We are building something and we want you part of it.

The reason it's not viable is because the player wouldn't accept it. He plays 20 games and gets an extra $150k, but for 19 games he doesn't. Instead you could offer $7500 per game match payments. A player would definitely go for this, though I'm not sure the NRL would allow it.
