Because Mann doesn't and hasn't played full back forever .....And Dufty has been killing it week in week out for a while not just one half . I like the fact he is a specialist fullback

Dufty has not been killing week in week out and this is a NSW Cup level. Mann has played in First Grade and shown he can handle it. He has the skill set to play fullback.

If we are looking at Johnston and Walker as fullbacks, its obvious that the thinking is Dufty and Field may not be ready for a couple of seasons. Why not use Dugan for those years and then move him to the centres for the last two? Then amidst all of this what happens with Mann?

That's true. 750k doesn't seem a lot for a top centre in 3-4 years time.

Although Dugan did make a lot of very public statements that he only wanted to play fullback. Wether it's BS or not it could well scare off younger fullbacks coming through.

Hope all the negativity towards him is just disappointment. Never saw him give less than 100% in a game. He's playing for possibly his last decent paycheck of his career and I don't blame him one bit. Another one who got to wear the mighty Red V at the highest level so I say thank you and wish him all the very best of luck (except when we play the sharks).
Good post mate..I am disappointed...really disappointed tbh but like you will cop it on the chin....hope now supporters dont start a hate session because of the so called cooling off period..no one knows the reason so best to remain quiet..particularly as hes still p.aying for us

Kind of the same thing though. Not budging on your final offer when the player is saying they will leave if you don't

It wouldn't surprise me if Dugan took less to go to the Sharks because he felt unloved.

Either way a decision was made and waiving the cooling off makes it final. Good for both parties

This is exactly what I am getting. We have fans blaming Dugan for the delays and dragging it out but I feel it was a game being played by Millward to get him to leave of his own volition. Prior to the drawn out negotiations most fans would have hung Millward if he said I don't want Dugan and I'm going to let him go. By pretending to negotiate without any real intention to secure Dugan's signature he has shifted the focus onto the player.

They need to sign up Mann now , and let him settle into fullback roll , IMO he will handle it he is very silky player and tough at the same time ....

Also, buy resigning Mann, the club has time on there side with Field and Duffy.

Widdop resigned and with Hunt no room for Field and Duffy in the next few years in the half's.

Can't knock Duges, no way I would turn down 750G and the club has backed youth and hopefully resign Milne, McDonald and add Lafia.

Mann v Dufty?

Mann has first grade experience.
Mann has shown great hands, speed and x factor
Mann has proven great in defence.
Mann is a very versatile player; Wing, Centre, five-eighth.

Dufty is a local junior who has risen to now be considered for first grade.
Dufty has shown great hands, speed and x factor.
Dufty has still to learn a lot in defence.
Dufty is killing it in reserve grade; looks to be ready for first grade.

I know Field is also a possibility however, who do we pick out of Mann and Dufty?

I don't think they were trying to get him to leave. I suspect Millward made the decision that Dugan would shift to centres last season when his form wasn't great, and then refused to back down when Duges returned to his best.

For mine it's a straight decision between backing your juniors as future stars or sticking long term to arguably one of the better fullbacks in the game.

It could go either way and it does seem risky to bank on what might be over what you have right now. But 4 years is a long contract.

I do agree though that by Millward going public on the centre/fullback debate was a mistake that offended Duges

I wish Josh all the best. I good player but certainly not elite. He has secured good coin off the Sharkies for 4 years.

Frank Facer noted something important. Here is Josh available to every club in the comp. Dogs, Tigers etc. no one bought him at $1 million. Ended up at $750 k which is basically a top offer commensurate with his ability/ really the same deal we put forward.Remember he was even speculating about French rugby and American gridiron.

For years I have felt was over the odds. Got elite money from us 2013 commensurate with the cap dollars back then. Actually flicked us for the Broncos before finally coming back when things soured and cracking our deal. His 1st game against the eels was spectacular but that's about it. The prodigious talent at the raiders never really surfaced at the Dragons. However, played with courage and commitment for us which I applaud. At the Sharks he will do some good things and score some trys because he is a good player; that is what good players do.

When he was bagging the club for not upping the $300 k offer to Benji I posted an opinion that he would not re sign with us.

The big girl has closed his account after all the fan mail not happy with his decision. After 5 years with the dragons should have stayed for less with all his injuries Stick him on the bench for the rest of the season nightingale is doing a good job he is a real champion.

The last 4 weeks Dufty has been killing it that's a fact . Mary had the chance to play Mann at fullback and chose Nighty . Mann doesn't have a future at fullback at our club while Mary is in charge . The way Mann has been stuffed around I would be surprised if he even is with our club next year .

My point with Dufty is he has been groomed as a fullback right the way through he is a specialist in that position and with Dugan out should be given a game or 2 while he is playing well instead of stuffing the whole backline around playing players out of position . At some stage rookies need to get a start as will the likes of Laurie , Kerr and co next year .

Oh no, I'll miss the Duges. :(
But you know what? He's still a top bloke who gave his all. He wanted to stay, but Mudhead Milward was foolish again.

And we also have another reason to hate the Sharks.

The thing that worries me is players like Mann and Milne will continue to get dicked around by McGregor in regards to game time, positions etc and will end up moving on because Mcgregor is looking after his own arse.

I think know knowing Dugans position we really need to use these players more and shuffle Dugan around to accommodate them
