938k then for the Friday night fta/stv game. How's that compare to other rounds? Crowd was low so did more people in Brisbane watch on tv than usual?

Scroll down with last link to sunday NRL.

According to TV tonight we did not have a NRL game in the top 20. 5 cities
The AFL had a game, see below Ist figure national 443 k the last is Perth 145 k. The only problem this is two different games surveyed. Guess which game Perth's 145 k was added to a game that was not even showed in Perth. I understand they can time shift for ratings in WA BUT this is a con. When is it measured, Perth had games (2) on from 11.10 am in the morning through to 5.30 local Perth time. Considering that million dollar Tv advertising contracts are at stake this blatant con and boost to fumble ball cant be allowed, Perth nine should should introduce their 3PM Movie, main channel with Fatty and bank the ratings to Sunday League.
Rant over

39k for a combined population of 7 million... yeah the tsunami has hit Sydney & Brisbane/Gold Coast
Actually it more like 8 million.
Back to my post about Perth AFL TV figures being added to game that was not shown in PERTH>

Coming this Sunday 28th may the same con will happen
http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/tv/detail.php?id=16052697&fta=1&fox=0
The above link is what Melbourne will watch, starting 3pm to 6pm Carlton v Melb
http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/tv/detail.php?id=16049780&fta=1&fox=0
The above link is what Perth will watch, starting 2.30 to 5.30 West Coast v GWS
But they will be combined ratings for Sunday top 20 shows. If Perth was not included which I say it shouldn't, the AFL does not make the rating hit it does.
Chanel Nine which from next year will pay upwards of 125 million per year should lawyer up and change this blatant bias or take advantage of it. QUE
Paul Fatty Vautin introduces the 4pm Perth time NRL sponsored Movie/Documentary , Batshit ' The demise of the great red', and book the Perth ratings numbers to east coast Sunday Football
Note for People like say Perth Red they can watch NRL on Multi Chanel on FTA

I don't know it, but does the Sunday afternoon Ch 9 game get broadcast live in to Adelaide / Darwin / Perth?

Or is it even on a 4pm their time delay?

Either way...play the NRL game on 9's main channels there and bank the ratings. What else do they put on anyway?!? At least this way, people have an option in those cities.

The game (NRL) is live on Gem or Nines multi channel see link below at 1.30 pm start. (Perth time )
http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/tv/
Of course they allow time delay for ratings purposes. Maybe Perth Red can get the NRL FTA TV figures for Perth.
Their is big money on offer with ratings and so adverting rates so why should BUMble ball be allowed this distortion. Nine could put separate games one for QLD and one NSW, then that would bring the ratings past BUMble ball into the top 20. I purpose two new teams. Queensland City & Country (QLD CC) AND
NSW Country & Coast (NSW CC). These teams home games are towns of NSW and QLD. Extra game to put on Sunday BUT with tailored audiences which would be a Ratings WINNER.

Roy masters saying today nrl rights would be 300m less if done today..

The ratings unfortunately support this view at the moment

SOO be very interesting to see with the new ratings system , hope it holds up

Why? Audience is less than 5% drop and sports content is still the biggest earners for tv channels. He isnplucking figures out of the air.

And on the digital investment, his argument is nrl contolled digital production will somehow fill a possible gap in 2023. How? How many subscribers and advertisers would nrltv have to get to cover the current fta or pay tv income? A lot more than exist I suspect.

Smith could see the risk and his answer was to put aside some of the games riches and put them into investment accounts so there was a big cushion available if things did go the wrong way. Sadly all that money has now been spent and the current nrl's answer is to spend even more on something that will in reality still have limited reach in 2023.

Link? or is it from offsiders
Does that mean the AFL's TV deal would be less as well, as they are on par with us in terms of ratings?

They were on a par..

But this year has been terrible for nrl .. if you study the numbers

Arse has fallen out of FTA .. regionals has dropped due to a change of win content deals..

Fox has been ok but.. has lost the 300k + games of mnf for a mid 200k game on 6pm Friday

TV has paid a lot more than the past and viewers are dropping.. they can't be happy

It is a symptom of struggling TV numbers as a whole though .. so Roy may have been fudging a little

Last Friday night was a ratings bloodbath for nrl

350k FTA viewers and 175k on Fox is pretty bad even without regionals

If origin 1 is up on last year.. I'll be very surprised

This seems odd from the perspective of a footy fan, but it is probably not odd from the perspective of the networks.

The industry standard is that shows with the same name can be coded together. This is why for years Channel 9 would code the two Friday Night games as something like "NRL Early" (different games into Sydney and Brisbane) and "NRL Late" (again, different games into Sydney and Brisbane).

If they didn't do it this way, then for instance the 6 o'clock "News" bulletins (with different presenters and often different stories in different cities) would have to be coded separately, which would not really be convenient for the networks and analysts looking at the numbers.

Time shifting is part of this also. Otherwise Perth "News", for example, would have to be coded differently from Sydney "News".

When shows with the same name are shown on multi-channels in some cities and a main channel in other cities, it is the network's choice whether to code the show as main channel in all cities or not.

Personally, I'd prefer the networks to code AFL and NRL all on the same channel, but again the networks often don't seem to want to do that.

Fortunately, Mediaweek tweets usually give enough info to piece together most of what footy fans will typically be interested in, which is the ratings and breakdown by game, although there is incompleteness due to restriction on reporting shows outside the top 20, which often causes non-reporting of AFL regionals and NRL GEM figures.

Thanks you explained a lot. However time shifting where their is no time difference ie Melb/Bris/Syd ( during winter) to 'get the best rated outcome is fraudulent IMP.

they only ever give the preliminary overnight figures which aren't the most accurate

often the consolidated numbers are different and a tad higher

Not that you'll care, but I did take onboard your criticism regarding this from earlier. TVTonight do report the consolidated figures a week after the event - although only for Nine, not GEM.

So far this season tvtonight reporting 21 of 35 matches at an average of 1,952 per affected game and 41,000 total over the year - out of 23 million for the season. (and a week behind current). (sourced from tvtonight.com.au)

ASTRA reports are similar - although they only affect the top 10 stv programs - ASTRA reports 60/92 matches at an average of 2,383 per game and a total of 143,000 not on the mediaweek overnights - from an overall total of 21.7 million (ASTRA is up to date through to Saturday. (source: astra.org)
