Looks a pretty average crowd but I wouldn't expect anymore on a Thursday night.

Edit: it's a shame because it really detracts from the spectacle of the game. At some point the NRL will realise that big crowds are also beneficial for TV audiences as well.

8,727 at panthers, outstanding work nrl and ch9.

To be fair, have the panthers ever averaged more than 13-14k crowds?

10-12k is probably about right for them regardless of what day they play, so what choice does the nrl really have.

Only for a brief moment, 2003-2005,

Still this is a 30% reduction in their avg crowd this year and against Bulldogs you'd expect a slightLy higher than avg crowd if not a Thursday night. Combine this numerous times over the season and crowd impact is significant.

averaged around 18,000 in 2003/04
and its not the average anyone is concerned with

this game against another western sydney club would have got 15000 tonight , tomorrow or sunday

Canterbury and Penrith played on a Sunday about a month ago, and only got about 11000, so pretty optimistic to predict they would of got double the crowd of last night.

FMD the hand-wringing over single crowds (and yes I know we all do it) is painful.

Thursday night with two teams outside the eight in late July was never going to get any more than 8-9k, lets move on.

At ANZ though
Bulldogs fans don't consider Penrith much of a rival & they're playing awful in 2017

This game at pepper stadium however is a different kettle of fish

Why? Moylan missing, Thursday night? Not sure why we need to criticise it. Accept it was a crap crowd and move on

Whilst it is explainable doesn't mean it shouldn't be criticised. If the world just shrugs its shoulders every time something sht happens nothing would ever change! There should be outrage and it should shame the nrl into not making the same mistakes in the future.
