Jason Nightingale 2017

I love Nightingale, but in the modern game wing is where you bring on your 18yo flyers, say like Souths did last night, so it may be time to move on.

Just another thing, can everyone stop saying "Nene is lethal in the air", yeah maybe with Melbourne when you have Cronk dropping the ball on a dime, but when one half of our kicking team is McCrone who seems to think the ground is 120 metres long it doesn't really help that much.
The rest of the time Nene is a big lazy lump who loves to jog around doing not much.

Did anyone see McCrone last night kick a bomb through the goal post from 25 out AFL style? Or was that just another nightmare I had?

Hate to say it but you are far too much in love with a 2010 hero.
Next year
Dufty FB
Aitken RC
Mann LC
The 2 quickest backs that are over 90kgs and under 22 years of age on the wing.
MC Donald & Lafai to reggies to fight there way into the side post round 10 or otherwise out the door at the end of this season.
All this bullshitting around with fringe 1st graders and other teams hand me downs and juniors has to stop.
The only thing that should change the above is if an outside back from the Qld SOO squad becomes available as the NSW ones should be avoided like the plague.
Honestly if you look at all the outside backs we have signed in recent years they have been absolute shit except Mann and he is the one who has been treated the worst despite repeatedly showing he can actually play this game.

OT, no I'm not and definitely he needs to move on now, however, you seemed to go off tangent without the realisation that McGregor is still coach next year and whilst he is you, and others, will have to face reality of who he is going to select each week. I'm not saying it's right and there is no way I suppirt anything McGregor does, but you need to wake up and smell the dying roses that surround us, and then, only then the hard truth will be realised.

I'd hope that Nighty retired after this season whilst still on top. He is one of my favourites but it's a different game, it's all about speed.
McDonald is not that fast and does get caught out of position way to many times.
Perhaps Mann could fill one of those positions. He did last year and was our leading try scorer'
I think that Maketo should not be given an extension and McCrone either.

Gee wiz, he's looking done.
Fell over for two close range tries yesterday untouched and looked hurt both times. Not as safe as he used to be with the kicks and mistakes creeping in.

It's time champ.

We need fresh legs and speed on his wing and have plenty of options to choose from.

It's an interesting conversation about Flo.

Again he was fantastic yesterday. Scored two trys ( one reaching back in a cramped position to catch and scramble), made good bullocking metres, one yesterday a barnstormer, chased hard to hold Don close enough to catch with copybook dive tackle in the second half. Yes he got out jumped by Don who basically out jumps everyone in that situation.

Flo even in his hay day was never a fast winger. He is reasonably quick but that's all.

If you are going to replace him it would need to be an ato Carr or someone very fast.

BTW Tim Lafai played well again yesterday. The timing and delivery of that flick to Nightie was sublime. Even Don was cursing himself for taking a step inside which opened the narrow channel.

Flo is an Absolute Club Legend and like most I desperately don't want to see him have another 2016.

But when we seem to have the dilemma of perhaps leaving players like Mann, Aitken or Milne out of the 17 - what to do?

I reckon he'd be an ideal bench utility this year. He can obviously cover FB and Wing but I reckon he'd also be an ideal impact player at hooker or anywhere around the ruck with his damaging dummy half work, especially 10 mins before half time and when the players are tiring.

This would allow some speed on the wing, and keep his experience and leadership in the 17.

Your thoughts?

Nightingales speed and defensive positioning in the shield showed every other team in the comp how to score against us. We don't have a coach that can exploit a teams weaknesses but every other team does.

Nightingale 2017 is not Nightingale 2010 .. He is a champion in my eyes too no doubt but if I were to list the top three problems in the team right now they would be

1. Widdop
2. Left Centre
3. Right Wing (Given Nene should be playing left wing).

This is not based on one game .. it is based on one game plus season 2016.
Can someone please explain to me why McGregor plays Nightingale at LW and McDonald RW?
We won a comp with Nightingale playing in his specialist RW position.
I also agree that Widdop is major problem - great when our forwards are obliterating opposing packs but struggles in tight games.
As for LC - surely we can find a suitable exponent out of current player group.

It's the same answer when you ask the question.
Why does McNoidea persist with McCrone over not giving Mann a full game ?
Answer : Our coach has NO IDEA.
Maybe he should be working for that magazine !!!!!!!

McCrone off to Canadian rugby league and Marketo won't be renewed.

McGregor is only capable of 1 major decision a season and it tiok him 23 rounds to figure that one out.
I can only tgink that by this time next year he would have worked out the situation you've mentioned.

What an absolute champion Nighty has been over many years.

But, sadly his time has come. We need fresh legs, size and speed. And while many can look at his try scoring efforts this year, from what I've seen most of the tries he's scored could've been scored by my Grandma.

If your grandma is good enough to be about the 6th highest try scorer in the NRL this season we should sign her up! I'm sure she could play for the base level and not take up too much Cap room - although I believe Nighty would take even less up (with his cap exemption).

We can continue to carry Nighty, like we've done for the last few years and he'll do an adequate job. Never let's you down, makes few mistakes and will always finish off a backline movement (when he has to run less than 10m).

If we continue scratching around on the fringe of the 8, Nighty is fine. But if we want to be a top 4 side and challenge the likes of the Storm, Broncos Roosters etc, we need more. Those teams have elite spines but they complement it with speed. Ado Carr, Vunivalu, Roberts, Mitchell etc.

It's not good enough to have an honest toiler on your flanks.

We made the tough decision setting Duges loose knowing he's not the FB to lead us to the comp, someone needs to make the same call with Nighty.

Whos out there to buy?
He takes the heat with crucial runs.
Melb bris and chooks also have elite salary caps

Plenty of examples of young flyers, Ado Carr being the best example. Doubt he would have cost a bomb. Melbourne just know which players to complement their spine. Cotric at the Raiders is another, the kid is 18 years old. Mitchell and Manu for the Roosters are still teenagers.

Good wingers are out there, we just need to look. As I've said, Mosby would be my target.

Millward should have made the call on Nighty or was he over ryled due to the club trying to be to loyal.

Young Tom Carr was quick yet got the shits with the club and left.

If you look over the entire club I don't see any really speedy players or should I say players who could fill in on the wing at this stage.
