PNG Hunters win the 2017 ISC Minor Premiership

The PNG Hunters have claimed the first minor premiership in their clubs history with a 28-22 victory over Wynnum Manly.

With 1 round still to in the Intrust Super Cup this year, the Hunters have secured top spot heading into the finals with a strong Victory in Port Moresby.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Hunters performance is a good sign for the PNG Kumulls at the end of year World Cup, with the Majority of players to be selected from the Hunters for National Duty.

Im really pleased with the PNG Hunters. The loss of the Port Morseby Vipers in the 90s was a wound that I feel has finally healed and we have gone so much further. I hope we can heal the wound of the loss of the WA Reds too some day.

Good to see, they are in good form in a World Cup year. Hopefully the PNG fans will get to celebrate a premiership and a solid showing at a partially home world cup too. Great for the game.

The way PNG have been neglected over the years really does show how short sighted the NRL are.....
Amazes me they cant make big things happen with PNG.
Anyway - A team in the Queensland Cup is most definately a step in the right direction.
Next step is to start getting some of those Australian owned Gold mines sponsorship money!!!
Great work Hunters.

Will be very interesting to see if any of the current Hunters players get signed up to NRL Clubs for next year.

Considering they have been consistent week to week for 25 rounds most times against players who have already played in the NRL or are in an NRL system than it is a very big achievement.

The previous year Kato Ottio got signed by the Raiders and this year Justin Olam joined the Storm.

The Boas Brothers and the Albert Brothers would not look out of place in the NRL and so too the Hooker Puara jnr or the Fullback Stargort Amean.

PNG Hunters Captain and five-eight Ase Boas has tonight created history by becoming the first PNG Player to win the Courier-Mail Medal for being the Intrust Super Cups 2017 Best and Fairest Player.

Boas also picked up the fan-voted Peoples Choice Award.

Hunters Coach Michael Marum also picked up the Coach of the year award for the second time after also wining it in 2015.

When you consider they have been the most consistent team in a comp full of players in and out of first grade then it really isn't unreasonable to think the best players could make a mark on the NRL.

A Hunters junior team would see thr flood gates really open IMO, if the finances were available it could be the best way forward for PNG.

The Hunters have qualified for the 2017 QLD Intrust Super Cup Grand Final.

They won a close and very brutal qualifier 6-4 against the Redcliffe Dolphins.

PNG winning, make it through to the NRL Grand Final day against the NZ Warriors in the NSW Cup v QRL Cup? A man can dream.

That would be fantastic. Now I'm blaming you when that doesn't happen and we're all disappointed lol.

The Wolfpack and the Hunters have really been the upbeat International RL stories of 2017 so far!

Remove international from your post and you're spot on. With all the negativity constantly surrounding the game at every level it's great to see feel good stories like these ones.

Sunshine Coast into the GF.

Bye bye Redcliffe.

PNG will have to play well to win next week. Good result either way but hopefully the Hunters can step up on the big stage.
