For the record Nighty is pulling on the 19 jumper for NZ this weekend.
Even their busted arse team knows when the clock should stop.
NZ have finally worked out that against top wingers Nighty is no longer competitive and have picked their team accordingly.

Nightingale may have slowed but he's far from "average".

Well, I personally rate him 7/10
Which is the average winger.

At what other top 5 clubs would he dislodge their winger!

Great is 9 or 10
Good is what....an 8?
Average is 7
Poor is 6
Less than 6.....park footy

Anyway.. ..thats my assessment

No i didnt say that, he wont go another 3 years im sure of it, but he will know when he needs to retire, he is unselfish and he obviously still thinks he can play at the highest level, and i agree with him.

I don't think you can rely on any human to own up... when it's time.

That's why Bellamy and Creeping are good at what they do.

THEY call the shots.....not the players.

The animals must not rule the farm.

Nighty's been a great servant for us and is still a decent winger. He can pretty much still do it all but is just way too slow now. Tall and fast wingers will continue to abuse him, and good halves will exploit him as well on cross kicks and grubbers.

For a team that finished 9th, yep he was the best winger in the club.

If we want to finish higher, we need to do better.

I get the feeling 2018 is going to be a year of debate amongst the for and against nightingale selection camps. When he has scores a bunch it'll be TOLDYA! And when he gets shown up by his lack of speed it'll be TOLDYA! from the other camp.
One thing is for sure, he will not miss a game next year.

Nighty is still a very good winger and importantly he is very cheap now.
I have a rule when buying cars..

There are three different elements at play..

Fast.
Cheap.
Good.

You get to pick any two elements you like.

But only two.

You can get a fast, good car. But it won’t be cheap.

You can get a cheap, fast car, but it won’t be good.

Or you can get a good, cheap car, but it won’t be fast.

So Muz, I’m clear on fast and cheap, what do you see in cars that define good? Good defensive reads in traffic, good swerve, low injury rate...?

Yes you are right, fast does not mean good.

Was it martin offiah the sprint champion who failed.. as did the Aussie speed king when he gave footy a go?
Can't remember his name....

But when i say let's get some real speedy backs, part of the selection process will be... Must be very good and speedy!

Same as big forwards... Big isn't good, Big and good... Is good.

Not Shane Whereat you're thinking of is it? Played for Easts and Parra back in the early 90's after winning the Botany Bay gift. Lightning quick, probably cheap as well but not all that good.

Martin Offiah
28T from 36 test appearances
20 T from 27 club games in Australia
423 T in English club football
Yep a real failure can't wait for your next player assassination.

Lee Oudenryn beat Offiah in a match race over 100m.
Later Oudenryn was beaten by Brett Dalls & John Minto over 75m.
Out of all of them I know who had the stellar career.

From what I can gather we want speed so we can score more long-distance tries? When I think long distance tries they aren't coming from the wings they come from a break down the middle of the field. Dufty has the pace and the support play to be there and provide this speed.

My only concern in the backs is that we have too many centres and not enough wingers. Nightingale is our only genuine winger. Lafai, Aitken, Macdonald and Mann are all NRL quality but none can successfully transition to winger. Macdonald has been put there for his height advantage but he is much more potent in the centres.

Hopefully, Nene can better adapt to his role as winger with Widdop and Hunt pulling the strings next season.
