What Movies Have You Seen III

The Last Jedi 8/10 - An absolute blast; moves along at cracking pace with some truly gorgeous visuals and ties in nicely to the original trilogy without becoming a slave to it. New creatures are thrown in without being distracting, the colossal mistake Lucas made. The Rey - Kylo Ren interplay is fascinating, Poe Dameron is given the screen time he deserved and Mark Hamill delivers a wonderful twist on Luke Skywalker. The plot is tight (maybe even thin), but forgivable as so were eps 5 and 6 while Jedi and the prequels barely even had plots.

Oddly enough, despite the 2.5 hour run time, it does try to do too much and doesn't allow itself breathing space. Supporting characterisations are spotty, especially Finn who surprisingly boring, the dialogue isn't as sharp as TFA. The little pandoras boxes opened by TFA, especially Snoke, mostly amount to naught as Jedi also fails to raise new questions.

Fanboys will slam this, but unlike I-III this is genuinely well made and plenty of fun.

Wonder Woman 7.5 /10 - This was a huge surprise from DC land; it tells a fresh and engaging origin story, stays on course and avoids winks and nudges to the rest of the universe. The key here, which no other DC movie seems to have got, is balancing the heavy drama with a bit of relief and fun when it made sense to have it.

I didn't think Gal Gadot could hold her own after her flat performance in BvS, but here with a bit of direction and a decent script she was very good. What a shame this is going to stand out as the only jewel in that rough, it sounds like Justice League is crap too.

WW should have come out before BvS, and given her more of a role in building the triumvirate rather than the numerous other fluff like Doomsday or Lex. With a bit of grounding the DC universe could have been great, most of them were just a couple of re-writes away.

saw star wars yesterday and enjoyed it. Didn't check the the running time beforehand but didn't lave me asking if it rally needed to be so long which is a good sign.

28 Weeks Later 7.5/10 - A rare good sequel. Fresh, original and maintains that raw and morbid tone. Very grey, asks a lot of moral questions and dodges most of the cliches. Deserves another sequel if the writing stays this good.

Phantoms 7/10 - Sits at a lowly 5.3 on imdb but this is a very watchable sci-fi horror derivative of The Thing. While it borrows heavily, there is a suitable level of mystery and tension and the main characters are relatable and generally don’t make dumb decisions. A very fresh Ben Affleck does fine in the drivel filled phase of his career. Liev Schrieber was one weird mess, although the other characters seem to be aware of this so it must have been oddly intentional. Final act is a bit lame but most of the movie works.

Watched "Valerian and the city of a thousand planets" last night. No wonder the insecure yank critics gave it a poor rating as it was much better than Star Bores. A visually spectacular movie with fresh ideas that makes one watch it again.

Yeah this was a nice surprise, wish id seen it at the Cinema. Liked it better than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Bright was surprisingly decent considering "critics" trashed the sh*t out of it.

Joel Edgerton is great as an Orc Cop and Will Smith isn't overly "Will Smith" which is good. Not a masterpiece but very watchable.
