I think the formula for "Under xx" age calculation is the same as that used by Athletics Australia.

"AGE GROUPS
All age groups are determined by an athletes age at the 31 December in the year of competition."

To be Under 22, the player needs to have been born after 31 December 1996.
Marata was born in July 1996.

Reminds me when I played Under 16s and turned 16 during the season. Lost grand final though. Plus because of their rule changes I did also start playing Under 16s when I was 13

Didn't we find out that there's no age limit for the development group? So why would we age bracket them?

I just pointed out there were six blokes either new to the full time squad or still eligible for age restricted footy. Those merkins happen to be 21 or younger this year. The other 28 are at least 22 years old in 2018, meaning this is at least their second year as full time footy players. So they are less likely to be on the development list.
