Pet hates in gyms

People who set up their own little circuits. Especially during peak hours and especially when it takes up one of the only two squat racks in the gym for 45 mins.

I despise this so much, especially if they’re doing it on a pin loaded machine since it’s one of the easiest piece of equipment to share

I don’t wait, I tell them I’m using it while they’re not

In my gym, people doing circuits and putting towels on equipment whilst they aren't using it is against the rules. Still, one douche always does it. Did it again today. Again on a day when I wanted to do chest dips. For 30 minutes I waited, no joy, and he barely used the machine.

I should do as you suggest. But I trust my own improvisation. I don't really stick to a regimented 1 2 3 type plan. I'm a ruggedly good looking guy there's no doubt, but I'm not built like a freight train so don't really feel good in a land of behemoths pushing my weight around.

Had that very thing this morning. Douche sack took up both the chest dip thingy and the chin up station. The chest dip thing he used twice in 25 minutes, and just tied it up by resting his towel on it. What a knob. Today was chest day for me so I was getting quite annoyed seeing as I like the chest dip.
To me, that is pretty shit training on his part to tie up that part of a circuit for so long

That's probably someone like me @Aragorn

I think for me personally it's a few things. Firstly, I'm shy by nature. Once I know someone I'm an open book but I can take a bit of digging through to get there. Secondly, big career with a bit of pressure, so I purposely use the gym to zone out. Thirdly, I love my music/podcasts and I'm generally engrossed in that. Fourthly, generally between sets I'm focussed on getting my breath back. Finally, there are some epic douche sacks who like to get in others faces, it can be a bit awkward or intimidating and I don't really like that TBF.

I will say hello to a few that are ultra good people, that I feel I have a good rapport with. But mostly I'm just zoned out. It's not done to insult others, it's just my mental make up.
Yeah I'm quite the misanthrope at the gym because I see so many things that annoy the shit out of me.

People who don't use towels, don't put their weights back or put them on the wrong rung on the squat rack.

I'll go to do squats and the 20s and 5s will be mixed together and so on. It isn't that f**king difficult to put them back properly. SERIOUSLY.

Then there's the people who encroach in my personal space for no reason. merkin do you wanna fight me or f**k me? Back the f**k off there's an acre of space over there.

There's a couple of friendly guys and I'll always engage and say hello back. And a couple of the female cleaners are lovely and we always talk.

But apart from that I just try and keep to myself as best I can because I'm not there there to socialise. When I do so I lose my focus.

It's not to be rude; it's just how I am at the gym.

Generally if it isn't too busy whilst between my 2nd and last sets on something and it isn't too busy I'll set up the next one. i.e before I start my last deadlift set I will set up the leg press and put my towel on it. But don't do it before I start my deadlifts.

One thing that annoys me personally (but doesn't make me get annoyed at the other gym goers) is when I am just about finished my 2nd last workout someone else jumps on what I was about to use for my last set. Looking forward to finishing off my session but I either have to wait for them or skip that one.

There's a bloke at my gym who stinks more than almost any other human I've ever encountered. This dude smells like he ate fifteen kilos of Blood N Bone, spewed it all over himself, and then went "right, time to pump some f**ken iron!" He smells like a dairy farm on a forty degree day. If he starts working out near me I have to literally move away.

I understand getting hot and sweating it out at the gym, but this guy, holy shit. His odour is a physical entity...

Let the staff at your gym know and ask them if they have a personal hygiene standard. He needs to be told because f**k that shit. You can't focus on your sets when your mind is on how he stinks.

Was he only doing dumbbell presses ?

When I was younger and more concerned with getting a sick pump on I used to end my chest work out with a drop set of some kind. One of them was do a barbell bench and then immediately grab some dumbbells and rep it out until i died.

Now this would be annoying in a busy gym because I was using one of the few areas people can barbell bench press to not move a lot of weight and half the time be benching dumbbells but I also used to work out at like 4 am so I wasn't really bothering anyone.

I dont think I have mentioned this one and it was a few weeks ago now. So I start my workout at about 5am and end at a little past 6am most days. So by the time I am finishing up the gym is getting quite busy. On an especially busy day (normally the switch from daylight savings before it gets f**king freezing has people trying their luck early in the morning so it was back then I would say) the gym was quite packed. Remember this.

Now I am pretty tolerant of most gym crimes because I have probably committed a few myself in my day. Sure if the gym isn't busy and there isnt people wanting to use it pump out a few curls in the squat rack so long as its a suitably heavy weight that would require mr huge biceps to require using an Olympic bar to get the guns nice and toasted. I dont care.

However on this morning there was one dude in the power cage sitting on a bench doing seated concentration curls with i dont like a 6 kilo dumbbell. I actually laughed at the gall of it.

One bloke at my gym in particular is super weird.

Seen him previously stop his routine to wipe down machines I have just used (which I've left clean) muttering to himself and return to his routine.

Also likes to rearrange the free weights on the racks of the machines so that they are nice and neat, and stacks one machine in particular. Did that on the machine I was using mid-set. Not a confrontationalist by any stretch, but took all my strength not to clock him.

That sounds like OCD.

There’s one tramp that is seriously annoying me. She will put her phone and towel under the leg press, whilst doing the V Squat machine, she added to this by leaving... get this, an ice Fanta on the calf raise machine. Three things she had tied up.

And then she went and spoke gibberish on the phone.

The other day was going to use an empty Smith machine when some chunt from 10 metres away mid set on another machine looked straight into my eye and said he was using it without any hint of hesitation . I couldn't believe the gall.

Oh... I’ve had that too. I bite my tongue so hard it bleeds. I hate going to the gym after work simply because there’s knuckle draggers and love me dos that lack both common sense and tact.
