anyone play rugby with a fractured finger before?

I thought it was only a jammed/bruises but x-rays shows a crack right across the finger to the joint.

Head says don’t play but heart says tapped it up and soldier on!!!!

Anyone played with a fracture before???

It doesn’t hurt at all except when there’s pressure on it (of course).

Keen on some feedback.

Cheers

Yeah I played the last half of the season with a fractured left ring finger.

Needed surgery on it but then I couldn't play. Wasn't going to miss out cause of a lousy finger so I kept playing. It didn't hurt but was pretty deformed.

I got surgery on it after the season but it's still bent out of shape pretty bad and always will be. Worth it though.

Thanks.

I went to practice and it hurt like hell every time I had to catch the ball.

In the end I didn’t risk it.

It’s fractured enough that one forceful hit will be enough to dislodge it fully.

8-12 week recovery

Yeah I kept playing. Hand specialist said it wasn’t going to get any worse.

He said tape it during the games if it helps mentally, but no splint or tape during the week. If it is splinted then the joint stiffens up.

Had a couple of games of b ball during the same period.

All depends how much joint involvement there is.
Mine was the volar plate and didn’t involv the joint surface. When the joint surface gets involved it’s different.

Not footy related, but I have broken a couple of fingers playing cricket, both of them keeping when the ball jammed into the gloves. Couldn't straight away with the swelling, having to grip a bat, etc. but I had confidence to do it after a few weeks when it was nearly healed.

But then they're sort of sideways forever.

Good man.
A bit of time on the sidelines vs a dodge finger for the rest of your life, better to make the choice.

I see a lot of guys playing on dislocated fingers put back in and strapped up.
