Channel Seven NRL reporter Josh Massoud suspended after allegedly threatening young reporter

Channel Seven has suspended rugby league reporter Josh Massoud over an alleged threat he made to a young reporter who works in one of the network’s Queensland newsrooms.

A dispute is understood to have arisen over a story about Todd Carney, and his decision to quit the North Queensland Cowboys to be closer to his ill mother.

The story was embargoed to appear on the channel on Tuesday night, but it’s understood the 21-year-old reporter saw the story on an earlier news rundown and, without being aware, posted it on social media.

When Massoud saw the mistake, he phoned the reporter, who was at the station’s Brisbane newsroom, and allegedly made threats to “slit” the reporter’s throat and also “s*** down” his neck, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Channel Seven’s Sydney News Director Jason Morrison met with Massoud on Wednesday, where Seven’s HR representatives were also present.

Massoud was suspended pending an internal investigation into the matter.

Gal shoulda smashed the bastage there'n'then

Eight months of bubbling tension over the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority doping scandal erupted spectacularly after the Dally Ms, with Sharks captain Paul Gallen and News Corp reporter Josh Massoud involved in two long and heated exchanges.

The verbal stoush happened in the sports bar at the Star following the gala dinner earlier in the evening, in full view of dozens of players and members of the media.

One witness said a member of security intervened.

The pair then fired up again at the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel around the corner in the early hours of Wednesday morning - again, in front of other players and journalists.

Gallen then turned his attention to other reporters in the bar, before former Sharks teammate Greg Bird advised him to leave for his own benefit.

''It was an ugly scene,'' said one witness to both stoushes. ''They were each giving as good as they were getting.''

The blow-up doesn't surprise. First, the decision to hold the Dally Ms in grand final week - ala the AFL's Brownlow Medal - instead of the first week of the finals meant more players could indulge in a few more drinks than they normally would.

Secondly, Massoud has tenaciously pursued the ASADA story all year, particularly in relation to Cronulla, and Gallen has been at the forefront of many stories

Gutter journalist. But he's not alone.

Bring back Chesterton, Clarkson, Frilingos and Heads.

They probably weren't saints off the record either, especially Frilingos, but they used to write about the ACTUAL GAME that happened on the field.

When you wake up in the morning and learn a grub journo finally gets his just desserts, the sun looks even better and you have a sudden spring in your step, knowing Karma works in the most mysterious of ways.

Mr Masewer welcome to payback time.

Missed his gutter segment on Thursdays BSB on sky radio, no mention of why he wasn't there. Maybe a topic they can discuss next week. Misery loves company Massoud
