New South Wales - Matt Bungard
1. James Tedesco: Outstanding at the back - scored the opening try, heavily involved in the sealer, hit hard in defence and ran well all night long. 9/10.

2. Tom Trbojevic: Showed courage under a constant barrage of Queensland kicks and swiped a try straight out of his opposite number's hands. 7.5

3. Latrell Mitchell: Had some quality touches and showed real class with his try - looked completely at home at this level. 8

4. James Roberts: A quiet night for the Broncos centre, who didn't really get the chance to stamp his mark on this game. 6.5

5. Josh Addo-Carr: Finished his try acrobatically, very nearly grabbed a second at the death and was safe as houses for the full 80 minutes. 7.5.

6. James Maloney: A bit of a mixed bag in the first half, but a masterclass in the second. Steered the ship around like the veteran he is. 8

7. Nathan Cleary: Took somewhat of a backseat to his halves partner, but ran the ball well and put in a few nice kicks. Looks to be the long-term answer for NSW. 7

8. David Klemmer: Not as involved as he would have liked but still ran the ball with real venom every time he had the chance. 7

9. Damien Cook: Fantastic debut for the Souths hooker, his run set up the first try and he barely put a foot wrong for the whole 80 minutes. 8.5

10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard: Ran hard, tackled hard and led from the front. Another who looks like he's in for the long haul in a Blues jumper. 7

11. Boyd Cordner: Held down the left edge brilliantly and was solid in defence, as he always is. A real captain's effort. 8

12. Tyson Frizell: Dominated on the left and was a large part of why the Blues got on the front foot in the early stages. Faded a bit in the second half. 7.5

13. Jack de Belin: Limited minutes for the Dragons enforcer but made every hit count when he got the chance. Lost game time to Jake Trbojevic but did well. 6.5

14. Paul Vaughan: Got belted a couple of times but kept coming. Provided some spark off the bench, especially in the back end of the first half. 6.5

15. Jake Trbojevic: His runs from inside his own half got the Blues out of trouble several times - a reliable and composed showing. 7.5

16. Angus Crichton: Limited impact in attack but turned the game with a tackle on Dane Gagai just after Queensland had taken the lead. 6.5

17. Tyrone Peachey: Only came on for the last seven minutes, but showed a couple of nice touches. 5.

Queensland - James Buckley
1. Michael Morgan: Good game. Hit the line at speed with every carry, and produced a first-half tackle on Josh Addo-Carr which may have saved a try. 7/10

2. Valentine Holmes: Sprinted 90m for Queensland’s first try but could do nothing to stop Tom Trbojevic from scoring. Ran for a team-high 223m. 7

3. Greg Inglis: Did his best work in defence as the new captain. Smashed Tom Trbojevic in the first half then nailed Nathan Cleary in the second. 7

4. Will Chambers: Missed tackle in lead up to Blues’ third try. Drove a high knee into Damien Cook which should attract match-review attention. 4

5. Dane Gagai: Scored the Maroons’ second despite a finger injury, but key error on own 20m line led to Blues try. Try-saver late on Addo-Carr. 7

6. Cameron Munster: Looked dangerous at times but well handled by the Blues. James Tedesco went right through him in the lead up to Addo-Carr’s try. 5

7. Ben Hunt: Set up Queensland’s second try with a deft grubber to Dane Gagai’s wing. Solid first game at halfback and produced some nice kicks. 6

8. Dylan Napa: Quiet throughout, and didn’t have the fiery impact that was expected of him. Behind the speed of the game all night. 4

9. Andrew McCullough: Serviceable in his debut trying to fill the shoes of Cameron Smith. Made 50 tackles before he was replaced with 15 minutes to go. 6

10. Jarrod Wallace: Solid in two separate stints. Made 25 tackles but only five runs and was one of Queensland’s quieter forwards. 5

11. Gavin Cooper: Hit hard with every chance he got, but was virtually reduced to defensive duty. Crunched by Reagan Campbell-Gillard late on. 6

12. Felise Kaufusi: Plenty of involvement. Almost put Chambers away in the first half, but the Storm and Kangaroos man missed some key tackles. 6

13. Josh McGuire: Caught out of position in the lead-up to NSW’s first try. Got through his share of work but looked short of a gallop. Not his best game. 6

15. Josh Papalii: Very strong showing from the bench. Made 30 tackles and proved a battering ram every time he ran the ball. 7

16. Coen Hess: Never really threatened in a 27-minute spell either side of halfway. Came on for the last six minutes but had little impact. 4

17. Jai Arrow: Tried his heart out playing limited minutes on debut. Will have stronger games for Queensland in the future. 5

19. Anthony Milford: Only given the last 15 minutes and was unable to spark a Queensland comeback. Helped hold up Latrell Mitchell late on. 3

Pretty much how I saw it. Loved Cook. I don't mind having Cordner there to be the settled player among the attacking stars to help keep the defence focused.

I thought Cordner was great. Not spectacular but was always there to take the tough hit up when others were standing back hands on hips.

He had to do this because the threequarters weren't able to effectively. He is playing the Gallen role. This is not his usual role at the Roosters, am I right?

Nope but it was a proper captains knock just the same.
