Hate to say it, but if the FIJI NSWcup team are failing to find the funding and that is the only thing stopping them from joining then they probably aren't sustainable anyway (or the NSWRL is asking for some ridiculous joining fee or some such).

And that's why league doesn't develop because whilst other codes fund clubs/development knowing long term the benefits will come. RL says no profit no cash........sad short sighted and just plain dumb.

So, do NSW Cup teams receive grants like the NRL clubs do, only smaller? If it is a positive move for the NRL in terms of increasing the player pool by increasing the number of players coming out of Fiji, then why not assist with the initial funding. From all reports Fijian RL secured all of the required sponsorship last year to ensure they are viable and I'm sure they also have Government backing.

A rolling five year calendar that only goes up to 2021! Only in RL.

That's cos the new RLIF events cycle kicks in..2021,2023,2025 etc will be for RLIF event with nations left to arrange their own fixtures in the inbetween years..so in 2020 the Aussie's tour the UK,in 2022 & 2024 someone will tour somewhere else..

That's what's supposed to happen anyway..whether it will or not is anyone's guess??

'A second global tournament in 2019' - right, the only thing this could be at this stage is a World 9s, which surely should never be counted as our 'second global tournament'.

Think 4 nations or 6 etc

Yes but how is that going to fit in 2019 when Great Britain is supposedly touring Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific?

Unless that tour turns out not to be a test series against Australia but instead a Four Nations I don't see how it can fit, or what the point of a GB 'Tour' would be if its just to play a 4 Nations.

Could be NZ a few pacific sides and maybe someone like Lebanon whilst GB play multiple Aus games and then a couple of extras against NZ and the islands.

Can assume the GBL tour will likely be 5 weeks Oct-Nov.
Ausx3, NZx1, and x1 vs a Pacific Island team, lets say Tonga.
Aus will probably play 1 more game v NZ before this.

I wouldn't expect Australia to play any more games, certainly not a tournament.

We could expect NZ and the Pacific Islands to be available for a tournament.

England and the home nations are a much trickier ask.
The home nations will be involved in WC qualifiers and while they could organise the calendar in a way that fits both it seems extremely unlikely.
England playing at the same time would raise too many credibility questions to be worth it. Maybe we will see another England Knights showing.

Italy and France will be deep in WC qualifiers.

All other nations will be involved in WC qualifiers and don't have the professional players required for a top tier tournament anyway.

That leaves Lebanon.

So in addition to the GB tour and WCQs, we could reasonably expect to see either:

A) probable...
4 team pacific cup (PNG Fiji Tonga Samoa).
+ NZ standalone tests vs Tonga and Samoa
+ Lebanon standalone tests vs PNG and Fiji

B) some form of 6 nations tournament with NZ, Tonga, Samoa, PNG, Fiji, Lebanon
