Round 11 kicks off tonight in U18's with the main game being a top of the table clash between South Adelaide and Aberfoyle Park. Aberfoyle have won both previous games this season.

First Grade is getting exciting this time of season with both grand final teams of 06 sitting in 3rd and 4th on the ladder. Every game is crucial now 2 get the 2nd chance in the finals.

This season has been the best for a few years with each of the top 4 teams proving to be able to defeat the other with the only exception being Tigers not beating Eels.

In what is the most exciting finish to a SARL season for many years, every game counts heading into the final 3 rounds.

South Adelaide ensured the race for the minor premiership was wide open last weekend defeating competition leaders Centrals in the top of the table clash.

The top 4 are only seperated by 2 points and each of the teams is desperate to get a top 2 spot and a 2nd chance in the finals.

This weekend Tigers face Centrals at Tigers home ground at Mitchell Park. Tigers are keen to make up for the after the siren loss to Centrals when both teams last met. South Adelaide are playing Cougars and will be hoping to post a massive score as points for and against are going to be important in 3 weeks time.

The most exciting thing for all the clubs is the quantity and quality of the younger players who have stepped up to First Grade this season. It all looks good for SA rugby league in the coming seasons.

In reserve grade Tigers have wrapped up the minor premiership for the 3rd consecutive season. They play Centrals this weekend in their final game before the finals due to Cougars pulling the pin on their reserves side due to injuries. Centrals haven't beat Tigers since Tigers return to senior competition 3 seasons ago but always turn up to play and provide stiff oppostion.

Aberfoyle Park have wrapped up the U18's minor premiership but their title defence looks shaky with both South Adelaide and Eels coming into good form in recent weeks. Eels square up against Aberfoyle this Friday night and Aberfoyle could be looking at their first loss in 2 seasons. South Adelaide wont face Aberfoyle until the finals but if they keep their good form going into the finals should go straight through to the GF.

Tigers should be good for the finals and will be keen to make their 4th consecutive GF appearance. Its going to be a tough assignment but the boys are up for it.

Aberfoyle Park is dominant for a couple of reasons.

Firstly RL is a subject at school, so they get to train during school hours and play as both club team and school team, so their well drilled. This includes them being a high performance target for SARLDO team with additional gym and skills training.

Second reason is that for the past 2 seasons SARL have imported kiwi boys to play for them. On both occassions at least 1 of the players have been NRL scholarship holders and headed to Sydney after completing the season. Last year they had 2 big front rowers and this season they had a 2nd rower and halves.

Yes poor Cougars. They started the pre-season with so much promise winning their first game in 1000 years. Then they lost the coach and the playing roster followed. Next year, next year!

i was involved with the cougars for a bit last year mid season and the main problem they seemd to have was a lack of players

With 2 rounds remaining the Minor Premiership race is still wide open.

South Adelaide is in the driving seat, clear of the pack on 20 points, Eels, Centrals and Tigers all sit on 18, but Souths has a tough run home playing Tigers at Home this weekend before travelling to Eels for the last round.

Souths were unlucky to loose to Tigers when they last met at Hackam in Round 4 when Tigers scored on the siren and kicked the winning goal from the sideline to steal the win. Souths beat Tigers last time the sides met at Tigers but Tigers were coming home, yet again, with a wet sail.

Eels face Centrals who just lost back to back games (and slipped from 1st to 3rd). Last time that happened Centrals came out and gave Eels a footballing lesson. Eels just moved into 2nd spot on points difference and both teams will be keen to be in the fight for the minor premiership in the final round.

Two big weeks ahead in SARL and a perfect lead in to the finals series.

What a final round SARL has coming this weekend.

Its a three-way tie for first position on the ladder with the top 2 (on points difference) squaring off to bring the regular season to a close.

Souths travel to Eels on the back of a feirce and physical loss at home to Tigers. Eels are coming off their first win over Centrals this season and have regained the form that has taken them to the last 6 First Grade Grand Finals.

While that battle will be no place for the faint hearted, Tigers will be playing their final home game against a Cougars squad fresh from the bye and keen to finish another disasterous season off with a high.

Cougars still have a role to play in the final standings of the regular season as Tigers need to score 42 points more than Eels final score should they beat Souths or 25 points more than Souths final score should they overcome the inform Eels to win the Minor Premiership.

Game of the week in U18's will be Souths (2nd) v Eels(4th). Eels have been in good form coming into the back end of the season but Souths have emerged as favourites to take out the competition. There would be fairly even odds for what will be the final match-up come Grand Final day.

We're waiting for the official results but Tigers think they might have secured the mionr premiership of 2007 on for and agianst points against Eels.

The official SARL ladder has been going on points for, and not worrying about points difference all season, but apparently that means nothing and its points difference that makes the difference for the minor premiership which means Tigers should have secured it with todays win over Cougars, even with a reduced 30 mins halves to assist Cougars who turned up with no reserves.

Either way the Tigers v Eels major semi final is a highly anticipated clash, especially after last seasons (game of the season) extra time win by Eels to end the first week of finals football. The minor semi will be played between Souths and Centrals who both will be feeling disappointment after leading the competiton for most of the season between them.

Tigers face Eels in the reserve grade major semi and Tigers will be keen to make ammends for the loss they suffered at the hands of the Eels the last time both teams met.

Tigers will also face Eels in the U18's minor semi which could go either way, depending on which team turns up to play on Friday.
The major semi will be fought out between the current title holders Aberfoyle Park, who finished another season undefeated on the park, and Souths who are now the favourites to take the title for 2007.

All in all its an exciting finals series ahead to end the SARL season. May the best team win.... so long as its Tigers.. GO the TIGERS!!!!

Under 18's have opened the finals series in fine fashion with 2 very high quality games tonight.

Tigers will face Aberfoyle Park next week to determine who will meet South Adelaide in the Grand Final.

Eels played a great game tonight, with goal kicking proving the difference, going down to Tigers 18-16. Tigers seemed to dominate on the park but Eels kept themselves in the game, scoring tries to ensure Tigers didn't ever feel in command. Half time was 6-4 and it was a physical and emotional encounter that was played in good spirit.

Aberfoyle Park could have stolen the win against Souths after the siren had sounded, but the bounce of the ball didn't favour the chaser of a kick, who knocked on, to sound the final whistle and see South Adelaide make their first grand final in U18's for 3 seasons. Souths managed to hold on to win 16-12 after dominating the first half and going into the break 10-0 up.

Hopefully, the rest of the finals series can live up to the standard that was set tonight.
