Gotta love the big show a.k.a the assassin a.k.a young talent!

Just ask James Brayshaw he'll tell ya all about how great this young man is!

I think he was just given a license today. But it worked. They knocked them over in less than 10 overs.

If I hear the term net form again I'm gonna scream like a freakin' school girl

looked more like a T/20 batsman and wont be able to get a way with those shots against a decent attack

The best part about Glenn Maxwell, the X Factor, the Big Show is that there is no shot, no position he can't get into that he doesn't feel he can't hit the middle of the bat.

The second coming of Kim Hughes.

The X-Fapter to Brayshaw's loins.

Forget women. Necks and The Big Show are all the porn a Victorian needs.

T IS the second one-day international versus Sri Lanka in Adelaide. Australia were sent in on a pitch that needed some application from our batsmen as the ball was swinging and nipping around somewhat. Australia were in all sorts of trouble at 5-82 - and in came the ''Big Show''.

That is the nickname given to Glenn Maxwell by Matthew Wade. Aaron Finch says to coach Mickey Arthur, ''Coach, strap on your seat belt, here comes the Big Show!''

As the temporary Australian batting coach, I didn't want the Big Show to blaze away like he does in the nets. I didn't want him to show everyone how many shots he has. I just wanted someone to bat for more than 50 balls and give us a boring 35 somewhere. And after being tied down a little, the Big Show nicked off to a wide one, which left us in all sorts of trouble.

I couldn't help but think: where is this kid heading? He is getting so many opportunities and wasting them at the same time. I see so many similarities between Maxwell and Ian Harvey, who I selected as an 18-year-old for Victoria. Both thought they were batsmen first and foremost, and bowlers second.

Harvey's nickname was ''The Freak''. And he was at times. He could play a shot that would blow your mind away. He would bowl the occasional jaffer and take the most amazing catch. Harvey could really play, but I think we read him wrong right from the start. He was a bowler first and batsman second, and his stats proved it. I feel Maxwell is cast in the same mould as Harvey, and I think the selectors think that way too.

The psyche of players is very important. They must quickly work out what their strengths and weaknesses are and play accordingly. Firstly, they must work out what their role is in the team. They must accept this, or they can soon expect a tap on the shoulder from the selectors.

Sure, Harvey had more fun as a batsman, but his bowling is what helped his team the most. I see Maxwell in the same boat. I think he is now more of a bowler than a batsman. Maxwell might disagree, as he will tell me that his batting stats are better than with the ball. He has a good argument as he has made 924 first-class runs at an average of 42. His bowling stats are OK, with 27 first-class wickets at 34.

This is where Maxwell must be open-minded about his talent. The main reason I think he is a bowler first has to do with what I heard when he released the ball. When Maxwell bowls his off-spin, I can hear the ball fizzing through the air. Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan had the same sound when they delivered the ball. So did Stuart MacGill. You can't teach that stuff.

Maxwell is a ''high-risk player'' and wants to be a batsman first. He hates defending and blocking balls. He hates taking singles. His game is all about blazing cover drives and pull shots. He does have a good eye and is a useful player to have in your team when you are winning, but not when things are going tough. With his present technique, Maxwell will always offer inconsistent performances with the bat.

His numbers are already testing the patience levels of the coach and selectors. Maxwell has the flair and aggression with the bat, but he needs to harness it, toughen up and become more circumspect and cautious.

He is an interesting choice as a touring member to India. If Australia play three spinners, I believe he can do some damage if he concentrates and doesn't get bored.

He can fit into the No. 7 batting position and we can have a match-winning member of the team. Maxwell can play the spinners quite well with the bat and can pick most ''doosras'' better than most batsmen in the team.

As a selector, you go by gut feeling. And the selectors are doing that by selecting Maxwell. They believe in him. That should be taken as a great positive by him. All he has to do is play within himself and back his defensive game more.

Jack Nicklaus once said to me, ''All athletes must have an X-factor in some part of their game to reach the highest level in his chosen sport. But his defensive skills will ultimately make him or break him as an athlete!'' I wish him well..

I don't really get the hate. I noticed that he was utterly rubbish v Sri Lanka, but the first time I saw him he more or less guided Australia to a win and series win v Pakistan. Not a bowler's arsehole, but shows a bit of promise with the bat. Is there something I've missed?

No, in fact you nailed it in one.

I don't think anyone would argue that Maxwell isn't a useful batsman. But the fact of the matter is he's being selected as a spin-bowling all-rounder.

He is not good enough to command a place in the national team as a top 6 batsman, and he's about our 373rd best spin bowler.

The main reason for the MaxDerp hate besides him being a Victorian with a long face is the Fap fest over him by the likes of Slats,Brayshaw and Invers and Co.
