Should We Bring Back The Draw

Because the media, IIRC including Phil Gould who now hates it because it's never gone in his favour, went on a crusade about it following drawn Origin games and series. And the NRL always bows to the whims of the Sydney media. I can understand it for finals games and the grand final, since...

Should We Bring Back The Draw

The final decision ultimately matters less than the fact that for the rest of the game the referees failed comprehensively to do their job. Had they held both teams to the rules there would have more than likely been a result, one way or the other. I feel that under the circumstances and...

Raiders unhappy about Hodgson injury, seek explanation from England

Granted I only have my MD from listening to the Channel Nein commentary team but they usually say it's an injury type you can't make worse but playing on. Playing on with concussion or fractured/broken bones risks worsening the injuries though.

    Channel 7 wins TV rights

Some of his comments before games were hilarious, like questioning why teams were going in with 3-4 forwards on the bench when two would be enough against Pacific Island teams bristling with massive players.

    The 'Thank you Tonga' Thread

I think for it to work you'd need games in Samoa and Tonga. Maybe one in each and one in NZ. Be nice if we could schedule a Fiji vs PNG series as well, but if you go to Tonga and Samoa you get a 3-hour time difference which lets you put those games on before QLD/NSW Origin.

    The 'Thank you Tonga' Thread

The NRL and RLIF need to get on top of setting up a best-of-three series between Tonga and Samoa to be played in the islands ahead of Origin.

    2017 RLWC - QF2 - NZL 2-4 FIJ @ Wellington

What the actual hell, NZ? The loss to Tonga seems to have broken them, though it's not like they were covering themselves in glory before that in this World Cup.

    Do coaches make a difference

Ah. So the answer will be that he's just riding Jack, Munster, Chambers, and Vunavalu are making him look good then.

    Do coaches make a difference

And at that point will you admit he had a role in shaping Munster, Jack and the rest into top-class players and giving them a winning game plan or will his track record still be down to "he had rep players lol." Great coaches develop great players and make mediocre ones look good.

    Do coaches make a difference

Bellamy's still the one ultimately responsible for identifying the best players he had and developing their ability. They didn't randomly show up at Storm training one day ready to wear maroon or green and gold. You also quite deliberately ignored my point about how sharp a decline Inglis and...

    Do coaches make a difference

Well, we do know that nobody got the same from Israel Folau or Greg Inglis after they left Bellamy's tutelage, and considering how good they looked at the Storm I think that says something. People often like to point at Bellamy and Bennett and say they had an easy ride because there were great...

    Broncos proved themselves tonight

Not sulk so much as long-standing issue. It's been a problem all year for the Broncos, especially when they get a good lead at half time. The reason I regard them as also-rans is because they continually put the cue in the rack and wait for time to pass rather than playing the game to win. At...

    Broncos proved themselves tonight

The Broncos have developed a habit of racing to a 10-12 point lead and then going to sleep. They have no killer instinct and don't close things out. At 12-0 so early in the game and a superor team on paper there are no excuses. Yes, Parra played well. But the Broncos had the firepower to blow...

    Broncos proved themselves tonight

It might be premature to draw a chance through their finals chances just yet but that performance was woeful. They had a chance to put the Eels to the sword last night but considered the game won by about the 15-minute mark and clocked off, which has been a problem all season. I expect the...

Broncos NRL Matches Discussion + Voting

Well, that was embarrassing. I award them no points, and may God (and Bennett) have no mercy upon their souls this week.

    NSW going forward

There are others, but Pearce is basically emblematic of all of them. He's consistently failed to deliver despite being given more chances than anyone else in Origin history to impress after both off-field and on-field stuff-ups. He's there solely because of his NRL team and form when provably...

    NSW going forward

Not just there, though. All night. Cordner absolutely destroyed both Woods and Fifita (or both combined) for metres made because they decided to be passengers. I highlighted that incident because it's one where both of them fail to put in the effort required for an Origin game. I wouldn't even...

    NSW going forward

Even if we accept this reading of events, Fifita still stands there instead of making any effort to go after Wallace. Show me one try this series NSW scored against Queensland where two lead front-rowers just threw their hands up and let it happen; absolute worst-case scenario is that they tried...

    NSW going forward

*Shrug* The replay is up for all the world to see. Woods failed to complete the first tackle or try for the ball, and Fifita just stood there and watched it happen. It's a moment that sums up their nights in a nutshell.

    NSW going forward

Then I suggest you turn the blowtorch on Woods and Fifita, because they were both more to blame for that than Cordner. Wallace's try came of the back of both comprehensively failing to do their job, after all.
