    Board Elections

Fletcher is the CEO not the Chairman. The CEO position is by appointment of the Board. Pretty sure Fletcher and Farragher had a massive falling out in the last couple of years after being very close buddies. It will be very interesting to watch how things progress from here.

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

Well the bloke who started the thread might answer that. Or the bloke who wrote the story. Or the bloke who sent the writer that so called buried letter. why did they all resurrect it? No idea. My involvement is with the currency of the lies surrounding it all - the event itself is yesterday...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

You visit a thread clearly about history to say that? Mmmm. The thing is myth and mistruth carries over from yesterday into today and, if not addressed, continues into tomorrow. That is a very "today" issue. In any case most of the discussion in this and similar foums is about what happened...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

I like to try to dispel them. Then an important secondary issue arose - the value of "established wisdom" as evidence for hanging on to a belief.

Correct that is not the issue at hand at all.

LOL - how many have there been? I guess in the football club there were qyuite a few up until 1984 when some stability came from the joining of the two boards.

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

The reason or reasons for taking action are critical in importance. Perhaps you might concede that the issues around the time were far more complex than these one-dimensional statements. And maybe you too can fight against the simplistic, mythical etablished wisdom that Roger wanted to be rid of...

Hang on to your established wisdom for dear life - it will keep you warm, Cheers.

What horse did he back that was wrong? He fought to have Penrith represented and that was what happened - the same journey he had been on since about 1963.

So were all of the management at Panthers. ALL. You might remember the Stand Alone / Save Our Team advertising and promotional campaign to help push the community into action - that was fully funded by Panthers. Not a single community member or business - except for Thomas Marsden Advertising...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

Yes - you can add all these things up and breathe a sigh of relief - but facing critical decision-making and an inability to say definitely what the future will bring is a completely different kettle of fish. Now imagine it hadn't rained on the central coast for most of season 1999 and Norths...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

"Established wisdom" historically has been the architect of many an injustice - indeed, in many cases, it has led to far worse than injustice. The preparedness of so many to accept the "established wisdom" over evidence. to me , is astounding. It is a state of the human mind that gives power...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

I know him enough to know that his memory has been exceptionally unfarily tarnished and I believe that if you ask 99% of those he worked with over the 40 plus years he worked there - and even the years prior to that when he played with the team and worked voluntarily - you would get the same...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

What you have written is close to the mark but your conclusion is wrong. Cowan's thinking was that it was better to have 50% of an elite club than 100% of nothing. Mulock's belief that Cowan wanted rid of football beggars belief - he created the myth that prevails and it is completely wrong...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

Lol - that is so absurd. Even the last sentence is clearly contradicted by Prozsenko's story in the SMH - Denis Fitzgerald had signed the supposed merger document - Penrith hadn't signed it. Super League did not try to get Parramatta - Parramatt in fact proposed the merger to Super League. As...

Itis very hard to get but I do know someone who is likely to have some copies on sale soon - if and when that happens I'll let you know.

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

I'm saying that such a statement feeds a myth that he hated football and wanted to be rid of it. Cowan's position could be likened to a man diving into an icy cold pool to save a drowning boy - and then have people saying he was keen as mustard to swim in icy waters. He saw Panthers position as...

The Parramatta Panthers? How close bitter NRL rivals came to merging [Fox Sports]

The document in this article has been in the public arena for many years. - it is not newly released. The facts around this event are interesting and should be looked at very carefully for there are plenty of lessons therein. The_Frog - remember that myth is more powerful than the lie.
