    Prior Conviction

Hi all - I don't have much time for the forum these days but I did remember making this call a long time ago. It only took 6 years but my prediction about Prior playing Origin has finally come true lol. I hope everyone is well and go the Dragons!

If we play like that every week we'll win a lot of games this year

Once you've all calmed down I beg you all to watch a replay of the match and focus on 2 things: 1) every run after Packer takes a hit-up. 2) the line-speed in defence led by Rein and then the lack of line-speed once he comes off. The cohesion in attack will come. Melbourne are the best...

    Why kick Rein

Interesting observation. If Dugan gets to Rein's grubber just a fraction of a second quicker do we even have this conversation? Or better yet, if Widdop nails a penalty goal that 99/100 he can't miss?? You win some, you lose some. Based on what I saw tonight I think we'll win more than we...

If we play like that every week we'll win a lot of games this year

Lafai tended to play laterally, Aitken offers much more penetration due to his leg drive and tendency to play very square. Besides, my main point was that Lafai didn't do enough to justify getting the nod ahead of Aitken. However it's only round 1, I haven't written it in stone. With regards...

    Why kick Rein

And yet we were literally centimetres from winning the game against one of the benchmarks sides. That's including being on the end of the most lopsided (and unjustifiably so) penalty counts of the round. I saw enough to suggest we're a hell of a lot better than last year. Just you wait.

If we play like that every week we'll win a lot of games this year

My observations: Packer was excellent. Led the kick chase, led the line speed in defence (along with Rein) when he was on. Every time he hit the ball up you could see how hard Melbourne had to work around the ruck to shut him down. His speed at the play the ball ensured that the 2nd runner...

    No Benji next year

Sorry, I meant for Keary. Haha right. Is this the only source claiming this figure? I find it hard to fathom, unless better judges see something in him that I don't?

    Well... the wait's over

    It's been a f***ing long off season! I'm so f***ing pumped!

    No Benji next year

Anyone know where the $800k figure came from?

    Benji injury?

I would bank on Mann to 7 and Matautia/Nightingale filling in at wing/fullback. Much less disruption and saves weakening our strike out wide.

    Score prediction for Round 1

I love a first up start against Melbourne at home for 2 reasons: 1) The boys enter round 1 knowing full well they'll have to come out firing or risk getting blown off the park. There will be no complacency. 2) It gets the toughest away game out of the way nice and early.

Jason Nightingale to notch 200 first grade games

And one of the best! He's St George through and through! Apparently he walks to the ground on game day when playing at OKI Jubilee.

    No Benji next year

I tend to agree with all of this, which makes me assume that if the club intends to retain Hutchison they see him moving into the forward pack at some stage.

Widdop continues to own the big moments

SBD82 gave OV ample opportunity to post something of substance and as usual he fled the scene, turning up in another thread to bang on about the same old rubbish. It's painfully obvious he's out of his depth and probably a very conflicted person to say the least. There's a lot to be said...

Widdop continues to own the big moments

Widdop has proven to be such an astute signing it's still hard to believe he came under the watch of Steve Price. Surely it was a fluke?

    No Benji next year

I agree. I was in favour of snagging Keary on the assumption he would add more value for money but at $800k that's not likely. Not sure about $800k on the open market but if that's what his manager is chasing then good luck to him.

    No Benji next year

That's the nature of the business these days. And I think you're comments towards Benji are pretty harsh, since joining the Dragons he's been the ultimate club man. He has made it clear his preference is to stay but looks like he has no choice but to look at his options. Can't begrudge him for that.
