    Financial fragility of the game

The $600 mill would be to cover themselves in a worst case scenario. So if they need all $600 mill, all sports will be pretty stuffed I would say, as I cannot see them needing it unless the whole year is wiped, and next year impacted as well.

    Financial fragility of the game

In WA, the West Australian football commission is funded by distributions from the WC Eagles and Fremantle. So the AFL is effectively subsidising the WAFL, it just isnt going through the AFL directly, due to the financial strength of the WA AFL teams.

    News Coronavirus and NRL

Its a pandemic. Nobody is immune, it spreads exponentially, there isnt a vaccine for the vulnerable. If flu put the same percentage of people in intensive care that Covid 19 does, and all 100 000 cases occurred over a 2 month period, then you bet, they would shut everything down. If you have...

    West Coast Pirates Bid News

No, in Perth a political party advocating for pokies is advocating for immediate political death. They will legalise drugs before pokies.

    2018-2022 Media Deal $ Value

5% stake gives them basically no so in operational matters. If they tried to stick their noses into a deal between Sky and NRL, they will be politely told to f**k off.

    2019 ratings

What is the 3.3% drop based on? The figures in the graphic show a drop from 359000 to 357000. Thats a long way of 3%.

    2019 ratings

The difference between the ratings jump for Adelaide and Perth is due to the broadcast in Perth actually being on 7Mate. Sports broadcast on primary channels in the East often get shunted to secondary channels in WA, because of the timezone difference I think. Shows the inexplicable power of...

NRL on Melbourne FTA is a joke

Even AFL is frequently on secondary channels in WA due to the timeslot difference. NRL isn't getting prime channel coverage for anything other than Origin or a Grand Final, ever.

News NRL leaked video scandals: Napa, May, Lane

People do get charged, it just doesn't usually make the news unless its sensational. This has been an issue in the military, where people were sacked, and charged. Its also the case that just because someone isn't charged doesn't mean there isn't a victim who is hurt. These can be hard to...

Leichhardt council to allow AFL to be played at Birchgrove Oval

I think thats mainly a combination of Perth being quite a bit smaller than Melbourne, and historical accident. I doubt very much anyone sat down and planned how to spread RL clubs in Perth to make sure they were well distributed. It just turned out that way, could well not have.

    Greenberg wants 2nd Melb team

The self serving rantings of Eddie McGuire does not constitute a near revolt. The take from the rich, give to the poor mentality of the AFL is propping up teams in Vic just as much as in Qld and NSW, they are not rocking that boat any time soon. The rich clubs can frankly afford it, they...

    Women's NRL

The real reason is the huge boost in girls playing the sport. These girls will one day be mothers deciding which sport to take their kids to. Its a generational insurance policy. Everything you are complaining about the AFL doing, the NRL is going to do, because it's the smart thing to do.

    Women's NRL

Both true, but untrue. Most of players recruited from other sports were AFL fans first, and often played juniors at a high level before being forced to quit, and taking up other sports. Last years league MVP, basketballer Erin Phillips, was once considered possibly the best 12 year old...

    Women's NRL

Actually, I think the AFLW deal is completely separate. It only goes until the end of this year I believe. AFLW this weekend had similar to better ratings on Fox than A league. A league gets paid by Fox, hard to argue AFLW wouldn't get some coin out of them from next year. This will be...

    Jarryd Hayne accused of rape

You realise that most rapes occur in private, there is little evidence other than that sex took place, at which point, all he has to do is say, it was consensual, and there is your doubt. Your now saying, if she takes action, and it isnt proven in court, which is highly likely even if she is...

    Jarryd Hayne accused of rape

Are you aware that if a victim, and more importantly, the accused, is poor, lawyers will not take the case to start with. People love saying, women love to sue rich guys for a pay day. The reality is, the lawyer threw 10 poor women who wanted to sue their rapist out the door because he didn't...

    Jarryd Hayne accused of rape

Said every rapist sued for civil damages ever. You don't hear of poor people defending civil matters. Rape allegations between poor people are not newsworthy.

    Jarryd Hayne accused of rape

He wasn't cleared, he was not charged. Police don't charge people they know committed a crime all the time, because they lack evidence admissible in court. Its also the reason women press civil suits. If your raped in a room, and your rapist days consent, how do you prove otherwise to a...

    Women's NRL

It is commonly said, and commonly believed, on the basis of nothing that I can find, that puberty sets your musculature in stone. The idea that if you go through puberty as a man, you get 'male muscle', and if you then transition, you are a female with 'male muscle' is very appealing as it...
