    Zac Lomax

Probably a forlorn hope but- dammit- he's too good to let go without a fight. Lomax was wined and dined by Brad Arthur and the thought occurred to me he might have a clause in his Parra contract that allows a get out if Arthur isn't the coach. Parra with Arthur in the saddle are definitely on...

Flanno said the same thing- his son's good defence and kicking game is allowing Hunt the freedom to run more and we all know that is when he is at his most dangerous. That try of his against the Warriors was just incredible strength- I doubt any other current NRL half-back scores that.

yep-a few short years ago, Muhleisen was being touted as our next star hooker. Now passed over for Nu Brown and probably won't be in the top 30 next year.

Sounds like we've dropped off on Petaia and with a Lions tour (2025) and World Cup (2027) in the next couple of years on home shores, perhaps the Rugby lure was too strong. A shame, as I see Petaia as being the like for like replacement for Lomax- 190cms, strong-100+ kilos-can plan centre, wing...

    whos, our next star player

Same problem with Canberra's Schiller. While I like Schiller and Garrick in attack, Schiller particularly , like Sloan, is a grabber in defence. Not totally sold on Jack Bostock for the same reason. Sometimes the recruitment and retention staff get it right.

    Rnd 6 vs Tigers

Weather conditions and injuries could end up determining what the outside back configuration looks like- Sloan was dropped by Hook after a horror in the swamp performance last season and clearly has never recovered- I've posted before he needs a psychologist to overcome his anxiety (mainly but...

Scott and his sister Kristi were apparently responsible for recruitment and pathways and for the strong Polynesian (in particular) roster that Manly have built. As with the Bulldogs, there are factions at Manly and both were eventually pushed aside by the woke ownership and we saw how damaging...

    Vale Keith Barnes

A gentleman and one of my favourite people in Rugby League- best lace up toe poke kicker I ever saw- got great distance but was also extremely accurate- just unlucky to have played when the Dragons were so dominant.

    R5 Knights.

James Graham alluded to that in the Fox studios- if you're playing in the back three and fielding a ball on the ground or in the air, you can't be worried about getting kicked, your nose broken or teeth damaged. It goes with the territory. Sloan needs a Psychologist- not a coach

Bottom line, no coach worth his contract is going to offer guarantees to a player- Brad Arthur would be a fool to guarantee Lomax a centre position when form and team needs have to come first- just as Flanno is saying. Lomax and (more likely his manager) know that. So I subscribe to the theory...

NRL is evolving into a hybrid game of AFL and NFL. In attack, often five hit ups and a high kick where you want someone with aerial ability like Lomax able to compete in a try scoring situation or at least force a mistake from the full-back. The Cowboys have a back (Feldt) and a forward ( Nanai)...

The most dangerous and also the only outside back with any serious pace- I can understand Flanno building strong backline defensive combinations (Bird and Lomax) and it has worked on occasions but when Val Holmes put on the swerve and the afterburners last weekend, Bird was made to look slow...

    The Rumours Thread

I'm always amused when club spin doctors throw in dubious accolades about little known players. when our KOE team had a big win at Mudgee, the match report had a reference to "Welsh international" Josh Ralph (our 5/8). Can I just do a quick poll of readers- am I the only one who's never heard of...

SG Ball and Harold Matthews results

I was at Forshaw Park (yes Sharks territory- how does that happen?) on Sunday afternoon and saw the majority of the SG Ball fixture Dragons v Raiders. My impressions were as follows:- -Overall a scrappy game marked by big hits and lost possession. The Raiders were no mugs- bigger/taller...

    The Rumours Thread

Maybe - but it also has to do with the different roles of wingers and centres- centres are not normally catching high balls on the last tackle or being asked to run the ball back from a kick off when they have some open space in front of them. All teams more or less operate in a similar way. I...

But that is the point- Freddy nominated him as "the gifted one"- but his gift never fully developed in the centres and he was never really spoken of seriously for rep footy. The shift to the wing has seen making more of an impact eg running metres and using all of his skills (especially his...

Zac Lomaz is a big body- but doesn't have the big brain to go with it. My respect for him started to wane when he insisted on flick( rather than conventional) passing every time to Ravalawa- it was show off, mug lair stuff as passes went behind Rav or into touch. One of the few good decisions...

Thanks Rev- I had good intentions to get to Netstrada but it didn't happen- I enjoyed your analysis of the players. This is something of a rarity to have both partners in the top 4- may not happen again for many a year.
