He's a great fullback. But he is average in all other positions that he can play. You either select him for 80 minutes at fullback, or not at all.

He offers absolutely nothing off the bench in terms of utility value. Luke Lewis can fill in anywhere except for the front row and he will do a great job.

lewis >gidley . That will do me! Myth (Lewis) versus legend (Gidley) is what you should edit your rubbish statement as being. Lewis would laugh his arse off if someone told him he was better than Gidley

The kiwis won't be too concerned with this line up...Gallen and Watugh are good for a few silly penalties.

Luke Lewis should have been the interchange utility. How Sam Thaiday didn't get a run has me f#@ked!

Stewart, Watmough, Slater, Thurston...Ahhh, how did these guys make it? It's supposed to be picked on form. I wouldn't even have Lockyer or Smith in there either but they are the types of players who will always be picked regardless. I'd pick this side:

1. Hunt
2. Folau
3. Hodges
4. Inglis
5. Boyd
6. Lockyer
7. Prince
8. Price
9. Smith
10. Civoniceva
11. Laffranchi
12. O'Donnell
13. Gallen

14. Gidley
15. Hannant
16. Thaiday
17. Creagh

David Stagg? Shaun Berrigan? Mat Rodgers? Any of those ring a bell?

As usual, state-based selection loyalties have seen a pretty ordinary team picked. They should have gone:

1. Hunt
2. Folau
3. Hodges
4. Inglis
5. ? Boyd is not bad, but Kemp is going OK too, as is Chris Lawrence
6. Thurston
7. Prince
8. Civoniceva
9. Smith
10. Price
11. Laffranchi
12. Thaiday
13. Johnson

14. Hannant
16. Bailey
15. Minicello
16. Farah/Ennis/Stagg. The backline can cover any other position amongst their ranks they need to, with Inglis and, at a pinch, Hunt, capable of playing half. Utility value to relieve pressure on Smith may or may not be necessary, and if you went with Stagg you'd have a big bopper capable of joining in anywhere except at prop.
