So I've heard, the season is kicking off 1 week later in 2007, due to there being one less Round and the NRL wanting to keep the GF on the long weekend.

However that's only 2 weeks before the kickoff of the premiership, so I'm not quite sure.

I'm surprised with the advent of the Titans, the three Queensland teams don't look to do some sort pre-season Queensland tri-series.

Week 1 - Cowboys vs Broncos - Cairns (Feb 17th, 2007)
Week 2 - Cowboys vs Titans - Rockhampton (Feb 24th, 2007)
Week 3 - Broncos vs Titans - Toowoomba (March 3rd, 2007)

Week 5 - NRL Round 1

It could be for a token prize or none at all, it doesn't really matter. The main point is of course to provide pre-season trials matches. And as such it wouldn't result in extra wear for the players because each club is already committed to playing two NRL sanctioned trial matches anyway as part of the Country Carnival.

But a short tri-series would give each of the three clubs their two NRL sanctioned trial matches while capitalising on the local rivalries and support bases. Turning it into an annual series marketed as the Queensland Challenge might even enable them to sell it to pay TV and make a bit of extra money out of it for the clubs (or charity)
