BULLDOGS AND MASON REFUTE “GESTURE” CLAIMS
The Bulldogs Club and forward Willie Mason have refuted claims made last weekend that he made obscene gestures with a water bottle during the game against the Rabbitohs on Friday night. South Sydney supporter Paul Wray claimed on radio and in a newspaper that after Willie Mason came off the field he “stood up and looked like he was screaming something out to Roy Asotasi or someone. Then he got a water bottle, put it between his thighs and pretended to urinate towards the bench and towards the fans.” Bulldogs CEO Malcolm Noad said, “These claims are just plain wrong. When all the facts are taken into account there is no way it could have happened. “When Willie came off he did not go near the Souths bench. Our physio took him off near the half way line and gave him a water bottle to re-hydrate. Willie walked up to our in-goal and back to the Bulldogs bench – nowhere near the Souths bench. “At the Bulldogs bench Willie rinsed his mouthguard, using the water out of his water bottle.” Mason commented, “These claims are just rubbish. In no way did I make an obscene gesture to Souths players or fans. It’s insulting to me as that is not how I was raised and I have too much respect for Roy to do anything like that.” Noad added, “There is no video footage supporting the allegations and we’ve check with Souths and there were no concerns from their players.” South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson said, “None of our players have mentioned seeing Willie do anything untoward during the game on Friday night.” Noad added, “I can only assume that the gentleman who started these allegations has innocently mistaken the mouthguard washing for the indecent act he claimed he saw rather than deliberately trying to discredit Willie. “This incident further highlights the position that football players are in whereby unsubstantiated allegations are made to the media with no factual basis to back them up. By the time all the information is collected and the player has been cleared of any wrong doing the mud has stuck. It’s a case of guilty until proven innocent. “It’s a pity we’re talking about an incident that didn’t happen rather than a great game of football that draw a record 34,000 crowd.” www.bulldogs.com.au It sounded like a bit of hogwash until the Richo quote. So who was 100% sure they'd seen it? |

Geez Noad earns his pay-packet considering the seemingly endless amount of 'damage limitation' press releases that flood the media...
Is there ever a Bulldogs press release that is not denying some club/player misdemeanor? |

So it's nothing to do with media fabrication and jealous/bitter Souths fans?
2006: 26-18, Easter Monday. Accusation of sandwiches and drink bottles being thrown at Souths cheerleaders by 'Dogs fans. Mainly through Raayyyy on 2GB. 2007: 34-10, Good Friday. Accusation of player performing a 'urinating gesture' to Souths fans. Again, claims mainly made through Rayyyy on 2GB. See a pattern forming here? FMD. |

Hopefully one fan whinging does not equate to the entire Souths fan base.
Pull your head mate nothing worse than a sore loser. |

If the press left them alone for a couple of weeks instead of playing "Spyforce" 24/7, you may see a press release or two about football, or the great things the Dogs do in the area for kids, hospitals and junior development.

Imagine Trindall was a Bulldogs player??? Imagine that West Tigers player who got charged earlier was a Bulldogs player?? The double standards of the media and general public is quiet pathetic!!!!
The club has gone through tremendous amounts of effort and money to clean up it's image and supporters and they are doing a GREAT job... it's a shame idiots continuously come on internet forums posting bullsh*t AND it's shame the media (Mainly news limited papers and 2GB) have an agenda against the Bulldogs! I still can't believe barley anything has been said about Anthony L and Trindall... Imagine Gower was a Bulldogs, Imagine the Warriors rot was the Bulldogs again, Imagine the large amounts of supporters who got kicked out of the Anzac game last year was at a Bulldogs game... Call us sooks or whatever but the double standards is ridiculous at BEST!!! Sonny Bill is living his life and it’s all over the media… JOKE! |

It is so frustrating mate!!! The Bulldogs do SO much for the community from charities, juniors, schools, hospitals and fans in general BUT nothing ever gets written or said about it... Instead the Media go for BASELESS CRAP (mason story) and gossip on a young man (Sonny Bill) doing what young men do! My little cousin (5 years old) saw El Magic in the petrol station one day... He was wearing his Bulldogs jersey, Hazem by himself came up to my cousin, spoke with him, gave him a Bulldogs flag and hat (He must have a lot of them lol) and rang his older brother on the phone because El Masri is his hero... No one told El Masri to do what he did! |

It's nothing to do with the 'world is against us' mentality. Previous troubles, which in the majority of cases were appropriately punished and dealt with, are giving rise to every single movement of a player being doubted.
I'm not generalising - most Souths fans were good spirited about the loss and didn't have too much to complain about but at the end of the day, there's a small faction, maybe even only one or two people, who seem to now for the second straight year have made an unbackable claim with no proof or factual evidence to back it up. Please understand I'm not having a go at Souths or the club - but the fans who crucified Willie for alleged actions as well as the media for taking it just that one step further... namely 2GB, for the second year running. |

LF, I'm not accusing the dogs of anything, but if they and their fans had've performed much more professionally when all those dogs incidents did happen, then the form of stereotyping that you go on about really wouldn't be in place, would it?
Their past indiscretions are what labels them. If they continue working on improving their behaviour, on and off the field, like they have, then those indiscretions will eventually be disregarded and forgotten. But dickheads like you will always be around and talking the same sh*t about double standards which will do nothing but continually remind everyone of what the dogs have done in the past. There have been many incidents in the last 3 years from many teams, just as bad as some of those by the bulldogs, but people have moved on from those. Your constant harping on and on allows people to continually remember the bulldogs incidents only, thus lengthening the stereotyping and prejudices. If you quit your bitching, you'd probably find that sooner, rather than later, people will be using another team to stereotype for the matters that are currently hung on the bulldogs shoulders. |

unfortunately the bulldogs are jsut gonna have to cop this sh*t until they either show the public they've changed or the public forgets. yes players are getting bashed over past misdeanors but it was the players themselves who got into that trouble.
i think willie due to his stature in the game and outspoken behaviour gets targeted harshly, the same way mark geyer did. is it right he cops sh*t for nothing? of course not, but because he's gotten himself into incidents (whetehr he actually did them or not) he's gotten a reputation unfotunately idiots get uspet over anything involving a footballer and ring hadley who just broadcasts these allegations without checking any facts. he did this with parra alst year and cct footage cleared the players form any wrongdoing... |

*edit - unsubstantiated* I understand the past has happened BUT how can the Bulldogs fix there image when idiots make up baseless crap??? Everytime from now on when i get called a "Rapist Lebo" i will call Mr. Hadley, you think he'll put me on air?? you think he'll care??? But God forbid A Newcastle or South's supporter ringing up and makes a BASELESS claim about the bad bad Bulldogs, he'll put down the club untill the mud has stayed, then when it's proven to be false, he will not apologise. Is that justice to you??? Last edited by The Colonel; 13-04-2007 at 05:16 PM.. |

I think part of the problem is that everyone else knows the mud sticks and even if it's total bollocks, they'll still throw it around. 2GB and News Ltd are two of the biggest culprits - there's no denying that.
