Sharks Sign Colin Best For Two Years
18/08/2010 10:01:49 AM The Hisense Cronulla Sharks continue to bolster their playing ranks for 2011 after today confirming the signing of representative centre Colin Best on a two year deal. Following the recent signings of New Zealand International Jeremy Smith and boom youngster Wade Graham, Best, who made his first grade debut for the Sharks in 1998, will return to the club where it all began for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. The 31-year-old is currently playing with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, having previously had stints at Hull FC, St George Illawarra and the Canberra Raiders as well as Cronulla. Best represented City Origin in 2001 and has played in six NRL finals series both with the Sharks and Dragons. “Colin is a quality signing and someone who will bring plenty of experience to the side,” Head Coach Shane Flanagan said. “He is very level-headed and can play in a number of positions including centre, wing and fullback giving us plenty of flexibility out wide.” “His knowledge, involvement and experience in finals football will be invaluable to the young players we have coming through the ranks as the Sharks look towards a top eight finish next season.” Best has played over 200 NRL first grade games and in 2008 was awarded the Dally M Winger of the Year Award playing for the Raiders. He was also named in the NSW Origin preliminary squad last year and Sharks General Manager of Football, Darren Mooney, believes his signing among others shows that the club is well and truly competitive in the player market. “Colin’s signing puts to rest the notion that players aren’t interested in coming to the club,” Mooney said. “We are certainly pleased with his signing… He lives in the Sutherland Shire and has been around the game for quite some time now and we feel it's a great time for him to return to the club. “We have locked away a number of key positions and Colin was another one of those integral parts to the team moving forward. from the member only section on sharks.com.au |
