Default travelling to new zealand...

hey i figure thers got to be some kiwis or people who have travelled over there and ive got some questions

im with vodafone, will i get coverage and be able to text/call people back in australia? will it cost me extra? and will it cost the person extra to reply?

are the prices much different due to the exchange rate?

and what do you suggest to buy for people back in australia. my other half is begging me for a pressie but ive got no idea what there is like from duty free and stuff

You should not have problems with mobile coverage and I would suggest that you check with Vodafone the international rates as you will probably get slugged these.

Big question as to what to buy for pressies...depends on the person's tastes really. Paua shell jewellery or greenstone jewellery goes down well. Greenstone is pretty expensive but well worth the cash. The missus would like it though.

A tip...don't buy pressies in the tourist areas like Queenstown or Rotorua etc. They hike the prices.

Hope this helps.

Oh...and say hello to my bro's please.

My advice to anyone travelling overseas is to buy a sim card at your destination. Then you know exactly what you're paying and it is usually a lot cheaper than international roaming.

Also on the subject of traveling to New Zealand, is there an equivalent to the Formule 1 chain in Auckland?

I've always wanted to go to a Knights Away game to Auckland

Also would I be able to rent a car over there with a P1 (hopefully by then P2) license issued in NSW over there?

From memory the cheapest SIM card we were able to buy over there last year was somewhere between $25 and $30.
There does not appear to be anything like the $2 SIM cards which are available here.

2degrees is a new player in the market, has the cheapest rates and I believe they had $2 sim cards when they first started....looking around now, it appears the best option is a $20 simcard with $20 credit on it.

I was about to ask if they have those $2 sim cards. I assume you can just insert it into a spare handset I have
