Peach on NZ duty
Source: Sunday Telegraph 25th July 2010 page 57

Sharks legend David Peachey will join Cronulla officials on a flight to New Zealand today in a move that couls see the cash strapped club take a home game across the Tasman next season.

Cronulla chairman Damian Irvine has invited Peachey to join Sharks commercial manager Peter Beaumont to meet rugby league officials from Taupo, in the Waikato region.

Peachey, who played 232 first grade games for the Sharks, has been invited by Irvine as a club ambassador.

Irvine said no deal had been struck between officials, but he said that the Sharks would look to take their Toyota Stadium game against the Warriors to Taupo.

"I think it's important to assure fans that this would be an agreement based on taking one home game and that we're committed to playing the majority of our home games at Toyota Stadium," Irvine said.

I know it gives us money but mark it down as a loss as well.

It will be a labour of love for the Peach.

Taupo is where his Kiwi wife and in laws come from.

Hmm, Adelaide, Central Coast, NZ.

We should go back to the days when we were the suburb-less sharks.

Well if we don't, we could always just take another home game over there. If we have any common sense, this time it WON'T be a Sydney team.

My first thought was actually I wonder how many games all up are being transferred next year.

Anyone know if the game at Bluetongue was a 1 or 2 year deal?

thats a way to re-connect with the fans.

im not saying its the wrong thing to do to ensure our long term survival, but dont on one hand say we are reconnecting with fans and then on the other take the home games away... be up front about it and stop beating around the bush.

Yeah well those options are better than going into the heart of rah rah territory in Waikato.

Survival is clearly the most important short term goal Ausguy.

Reconnecting with the fans goes both ways. Until the team starts performing a lot better than it is now, we could play every game at Toyota Stadium and we still wouldn't win many fans.

As I said I don't disagree but once he knows what he wants to do lay it all out .

He needs to come out and say upfront "we are taking 3 games away to assist with income, this exercise will give the club x amount of revenue in the 2011 season" do it from the start so all fans are aware. Dint just drop an article mentioning taking a game to NZ when we don't even know the draw. It's like he speaks, thinks, then speaks some more.
