It really saddens me to see the French local comp playing to what seems like zero crowds - looking at the photos..

I haven't looked at the youtube vids (run out of broadband for another couple of days.. :? )

I know local derbies and top of the ladder teams can get 8000 crowds, but it just seems too low key..

Of all the talk the French RL comes up with, it seems they are only interested in Catalans and Toulouse..

Do they have any plans for a overhaul to have a completely professional 12 team comp with a TV contract..??

Be good to see minimum of 5000 crowds and max 20,000 crowds in the next couple of years...

I usually wait to see if any of the fans posts pics at Rugbyforumxiii. A few of the other club sites have a pretty decent amount of pics and videos too.

Yeah, but some of the grounds are pretty much garbage and have the 1 main stand and a running track or concrete fence around it.

I know local derbies and top of the ladder teams can get 8000 crowds, but it just seems too low key..

True, but a few of the low key games are played at very small villages and getting 1,000 to turn up when 5/6,000 live in the village is pretty damn good.

I've noticed that Avignon has started to buck the trend with this though, they seem to be able to get a decent crowd and get decent news (print/radio/TV), hopefully a club like that can drag themselves and the rest into the 21st century.

Not really, a few teams would def get better crowds than Toulouse have lately, it's just that they aren't in big massive cities with lots of *potential or so called potential.

Wouldn't take much, they have everything more or less in place, all they need is a TV station to come along and stump up the money, but that's won't happen until the League themselves show they are capable or turning it all around and running a decent pro semi pro comp.

But in saying that, there has been a few rumblings lately about the game getting some slots on FTA (france 3 regional) again, so you never know.

Be good to see minimum of 5000 crowds and max 20,000 crowds in the next couple of years.

For sure, if any country has the *potential to do this, it's def France, it's a matter for those running the game to see if they are up to it though.

Superb victory Avignon today 3 000 spectators and a good game.
Carpentras players have not fallen and would have won also.
Juniors SOA won 26-19 when they lost 19-0 at halftime. Incredible turnaround following the speech coach in the locker room ...
