Anyone with knowledge of the Steelers know anything about the halfback Shannon Crook? I heard some talk that he was on something like $25k for them, and that he was spotted by Wayne Bennet. Anyone confirm or is this just rubbish talk?

Richie Kennar and Pride Petterson-Robati are the 2 (Jesse Parete as well but he's not playing) who will go on to much bigger things from the Storm. Most of the rest are Vic kids so its a bit hard to get a guage on how good they are.
just finished watchin highlights of some of the sg ball games from last weekend, and petterson-robati was a standout in the storm-raiders game. Also found out he's only turning 16 this year, it'll be good to see how he goes against traditionally strong teams like the roosters and doggies. How long is he contracted to the storm?

We signed him to a 6 year contract as a 14 year-old. From what I can gather he's pretty much the complete package for a 13. Size, speed, agility, ball-skills, tough and enjoys defence.

Looking forward to seeing him play in a couple of weeks

It's really great that they've put up highlights videos.

The more coverage the better. And it's always good to check out the other games and rewatch the one(s) you were at.

WOW A 6 YEAR CONTRACT! Haven't heard a rugby league player on such a long contract before. Good on him and the storm!

Wow exactly. Ask anyone with legal training. As soon as he turns 18 he can get out of any contract signed by his parents.

Sorry April that may not always be the case. At 'Common Law' your statement would have been correct, however it is my understanding that in most states and territories throughout Australia the 'Common Law' has been altered by statute.

For example, where I live which is NSW, the rules of Common Law governing minors has been replaced by the Minors (Property & Contracts) Act 1970. Of particular importance in what you have discussed is section 30 which states that the contract is binding on the minor obtaining majority or sui juris (i.e. turning 18).

In most cases what you will always find is that the minor (as well as the parents) signed the contract. However it depends on where the contract was signed (or what the contract states) as to which laws prevail. In this instance one would assume that given it is the Melbourne Storm then the law of Victoria would apply.

Regards,
Tuc.

This guy captained NSW 16s against QLD last year. He is a seriously bright talent. Looks like he can do it all, kick goals, the lot. He is only 17 years old and has a lot of developing to do. The Steelers also have a very good half back in the 20s as well. They also had Beau Henry, can't keep them all. Illawarra is not noted for developing half backs but they have some good ones here. Last good 7 to come out of the Steelers was John Simon and he played Origin at 19 years of age. Illawarra tends to produce forwards. They had a good one in Shannon Wakeman but Penrith took him at the end of 2010. That's the salary cap for you. If he was developed at Melbourne may be he would still be there.

So after two rounds so far, looks like some interesting results, penrith zip from 2 in matts,,, pressures on especially if they drop one more, looks like parra are in for another big season in the matts as well.........Dogs are set also for a big year in the ball, maybe knights can give them a run, they seem to be going well..... lets here your thoughts anyway.......

Wests and Balmain are both undefeated in the SG Ball.

With Wests having 8 players backing up from the SG Ball squad of last year they always had the potential to do well but Balmain under the astute coaching of Balin Cupples have proven they will also be there at semi final time.

Its going to be interesting to see how they go over the next few weeks. They still have to play Penrith, Parra and Newcastle not to mention Illawarra, who could be a dark horse.

Good luck to them, but could be tough.

As for Wests and Balmain.....I think they'll both make the final 8, but after that I cant be so sure.

Wests beat the Bulldogs last weekend so that has to stand for something, but I also think the Dogs shot themselves in the foot in critical situations. The Magpies are a good side, but just how good??

The Tigers I dont know about. Saw most of their game against Parra and didnt see anything too spectacular. Again, Parra shot let themselves down alot in that game. Didnt see last weeks game against Canberra, so not too sure on them.

Long way to go though, so its tough to make any sort of accurate comment I think....lol.
