Harold Matts - Canterbury 13 - Illawarra 12
I was looking forward to watching this game and in particular this kid Jack Bird...How good is he..Give me the ball I can score... very impressive and I noticed he gets in there and does his fair share of tackling as well. I also liked the No.1 Dylan Russell and the No.6 Drew Hutchinson kept them in the game with his astute kicking game.
For Canterbury the half back Cox does a great job of orgainising the team and the left Centre Michael Morgan certainly knows how to score a try. The reserve No 19 Mohammed Hijazi was a danger when he came on.

SG Ball - Newcastle 25 - Canterbury 24
The Newcastle No.12 Ben Roose and No.9 Adam Clydsdale where the standout players. Their goaline Defence won Newcastle the game. The No. 7 played well..was he the one who kicked the ball backwards ?
For Canterbury No. 8 David Klemmer as usual tried his guts out and was supported by No.6 Samisoni Langi and No.10 Leilani Latu.

LF did you end up getting to the game (and you to Half Back if your reading this quote)? If not you both missed a cliff hanger come awesome game of footy!

Bird had a gun game and was so hard to stop, both him and Atallah scored great tries! On the other side Morgan again scored another spectacular Ariel try and kept Deejay quiet. I felt sorry for Deejay when he missed the field goal attempt. Golden point extra time was deserved!

Ultimately the hats went off for Coxy for yet another golden boot winning field goal, not forgetting his try also!

Regards,
Tuc.

Tuc,
I did make it out there and as you said it was a great game and the defence from both teams was spectacular. Morgan had a great game and for a kid who nis only in their first yr of footy is gonna have a big future. Bird and Atallah were both great again and didnt take a backward step against the big pack the doggies have. Also heard that Atallah was knocked out after scoring his try in the corner. How hard is Bird to tackle, future superstar.

Hey Tuc

Definitely did catch the game. Thought Bird was unlucky although in a losing team not to be player of the match he was outstanding, in everything positive for the Steelers. Cox redeemed himself from last week with the early drop goal and was good for the dogs. Interesting to see if as suggested how you compare the 10 players from the dogs in the mix for 16s against those that play tomorrow night. Have really enjoyed the whole HM season (and ball for that matter) both competitions were very even with a number of teams on any given day able to win, ultimately hats off to both the dogs and newcastle for producing under pressure when it counted most.

Pat Mata'utia. Real talented family, Peter was an ex Aust schoolboys rep who's apparently killing it in NSW cup this year, Chanel is in NYC, Pat will be in NYC in a week or two, and Sione blitzed them in Harold Mats this year even though he was playing a year up

Thanks for the reports!

Did they announce players of the match and/or players of the season?

when does the nsw u/16s squad get announced?

Possible v Probable match is tonight 6:30pm at Leichardt. Then they have the Australian final between Dogs and East Brisbane on Saturday also at Leichardt so assume the team will be announced after this match is completed. Especially as no dogs players will play in tonights match.

Early tip for the 2012 SG Ball comp - Illawarra. Just read through their squad, sensational. The Dragons need to sign the best of them, big test for the recruitment people. They won't be able to keep them all. Again they will probably be physically one of the smaller teams in the comp.
