Hey pride128 there were a lot of newcastle kids trialing at the Centurion trials as the Knights was invite only from what I have heard, they travelled down I guess. Starling played in the halves for his club side Kincumber in the GF on the coast. You right he went well in at hooker, tough and engaging. On the coast trials it was an open trial roughly about 250 kids in all trialing some excellent talent on show.

Yes Kab thought as much, The talk was that a quite a few Newcastle boys would trial down on the coast rather than at the Knights even if they were invited to trial with Newcastle. Also at the Balmain trials there were quite a few Newcastle kids. When kids get invites to their boyhood clubs and fail to attend or trial elsewhere it shows that something is not right.

At the SG Ball trials coastal kids such as Trust Ledger, Hiku Moeku, Tom Starling, Brendan Ohagan, Jack Wier, Cooper Bosden, Blake Andrews (didn't play but) plus others were all in attendance. All class players and most of these were already in the knights system from the 2014 Harold Matts. The knight's must be applauded for keeping these kids now that the Central coast is the roosters patch.

The local contingent consisted of boys who were in either the Harold Matts summer squad for 2014 or the Newcastle Rebels. Plenty of boys who had great local seasons were never invited to the trials. This goes against what Matt Lantry says about all the local games the selectors watched and identifying and sticking with local talent, basically they already had your name from the Harold Matts or the rebels. Signing kids from New Zealand and Queensland to play SG Ball or Western Australia to play Harold Matts is really looking after the local talent. With the huge amount of local talent is it really needed to recruit outside the area for the junior reps?

Their is a complete lack of confidence in the Knights selection process amongst the local Newcaslte players and local club officials. The gap between the knights and the local community is wider than ever. Troy Pezet fingers are pointing at you. Already uncontracted and contracted players from last years victorious Harold Matts team are enquiring about opportunities elsewhere. Sydney Clubs are ready to swoop.

The knights overlooked Latrell Mitchell for Harold Matts 2013, went to central coast and starred, made NSW then picked up to a big deal by the roosters after a chase by several NRL clubs, was SG Ball player of the year last year and made his debut for Holden Cup at 17. Jaiden Tarrant overlooked by the knights for Harold Matts 2014, went to North Sydney and starred made NSW possible v probable and picked up to a big deal by the eagles after a chase by several NRL clubs! Brett Kimmorley, Robbie Ross, Michael Ennis, Willie Mason, Anthony Tupou, Tevita Pangai, Matautia bros, Josh Jackson etc. Why does this keep happening? Its funny how the Sydney club selectors can find these guys but the knights cant seem to find them or hold on to them in their own backyard.

If the Roosters tap into the Central coast player talent like I think they will then the Knights will watch a huge talent pool dry up and will need to look after their local talent more than ever. This will also effect Manly and Bulldogs.

On a positive note it was great to see new Knights first grade coach Rick Stone sit and watch at least half of the Harold Matts and SG Ball trials, something Wayne Bennett would have never done.

. Rick Stone was at a lot of matches last year he also has keen interest in the local talent. From what I have seen the Roosters have signed quiet a few coast kids and those older ones are already experiencing training with the roosters. 20s I'm really surprised they went to trial Trust ledger he hasn't got the discipline or the drive. Now all these boys come with a development fee. Any player that played matts will cost $ if they have played divisional rep or played country come with $ development fee. If your a Kiwi its more$ I also know a couple of players from the coast showed up with contracts. I now that all coast kids that played Matts were asked to trial with the Knights.
They must have the some good intentions for them. I'm not sure how many showed.
You have pointed the finger at Troy Prezet, but that's his job but he is also the 20's coach now. I have grave concerns for the Knights. It will interesting to see they summer squads.

Jack Weir is the Chargers squad. If you go to the Knights forum you will find 15's Matts 17 and Ball squads. I agree some names are missing. Matt achkinson???

Looking through the Eels and Roosters squads and there's a few names that are on both sheets: Grant Taulafo, Eloni Saukuru are the first two noticeable ones. What's the go with that? I'm quite new to the whole Junior system (Only really started following in 2013) so is this a common occurrence?

I think the Knights havent done to bad a job with their SG Ball squad. Some decent players there. A good mixture of right age and underage players.

Se'e Kali is a 150kg front row monster, Aj Raeli is a beast at centre and both got everyones attention at the trials. Both are from Ipswich QLD. Will Sheeley is another big boy from bathurst and will go alright. Then you have Barker, Butterfield, Deyalou and a few others backing up from last year.

There U17 Development side is very strong and the following players are the cream of last seasons Harold Matts team and have been named in the SG Ball squad, these guys should be the stars next season:

Matt Cooper - Fullback/Centre NSW U16 rep, big reputation had a good harold Matts campaign but quiet local comp.
Heath Gibbs - Centre/Second Row, has the right pedigree, good matts but quiet local season.
Blake Andrews - Centre, missed Harold Matts.
Luke Casson - Prop, suprised by his selection but had a solid harold matts and local club season, an honest toiler who works hard.
Kurtis Dark - Lock/Second Row, NSW U16 rep, Taree lad and great player all round.
Lyndon Hills - The bolter of the squad, trialled well.
Brodie Jones - Can play any postion on the field, NSW U16 Rep. Absolute standout for Harold matts and local club Cessnock.
Sam Mcintyre - Wing, Port Macquarrie lad.
Brendan Ohagan - Halfback, NSW U16 Rep, Best half his age in the state.
Nic Omeley - Centre, trialled ordinary but has the right last name.
Pasami Saulo - Prop, great Matts and local club season for Morpeth, always runs hard.
Tom Starling - Hooker/ 5/8, NSW U16 rep, only small but plays way above his size, plenty of heart.
Joel Taylor - Second Row, solid Matts and local club season playing U18's.
Hudson Young - 5/8, Good kicking game and gets under the oppositions skin like Micheal Ennis.

Matt Atchison i dont know what has happend or where he has gone.

Jack Wier and Jayden Hocking are both in the U17's. Hocking was recruited from WA as a 5/8 but has failed to live up to his hype, couldnt nail down the postion in the Matts where the coaches preferred both Nash Birch and Hudson Young. Didnt do much in the local comp either, got an U18 grand final winners medal though. Dont think they know where to play him, has been second row, lock, 5/8 and fullback without starring at any.

Jack Weir is one of those players that can play any postion and is pretty good at it, but there is a few of those in the SG ball squad already so he will have to wait untill next year.

In the local Hunter comp there is an abundance of quality forwards in the 16-18yr old age groups and we will see this over the next couple of years. Halfbacks are the problem. If Brendan Ohagan gets hurt they will scrape up a replacement but they wont be anywhere near the same quality.

Will be a typical Knights team, competitive and determined but i am more excited about the propects for next year where i think they will be right up there.

Sometimes players trial with two clubs and get picked by both.

They are Eels juniors , the Rorters are doing their usual smash and grab. There is a Development fee if the Rorters sign them, not enough as it is only $2,000 per player. O'Sullivan and Cleal spend most of their time in the Riff and Eels district, Tigers not too far behind them
