It sold out with BNE v NQ and last night Sharks got to Allianz in numbers. Can't imagine it wouldn't. Storm always travel well for GFs too

Good stuff...
Didn't realise that the presale went 50k deep.
It's a shame really. More members = more atmosphere.

You'd expect they'd be people in the shire who aren't that interested in the footy who will go and just join the bandwagon.

I reckon there will be 20k diehard Sharks supporters there. 25k bandwagon just go along with mates part Sharks supporter.

So that gets us to 45k.

You'd think they'd be 15k Storm supporters there.

So you'd think they'd be quite a lot of neutrals too who want to see history.

So it should get 82k.

Really??

Let's look at 4 interstate (non-Victorian) interstate sides average home crowds in 2016.
-Adelaide 47,056
-Port Adelaide 39,665
-West Coast Eagles 36,545
-Fremantle 31, 416.

That's four AFL clubs outside of Victoria that get average crowds that the NRL envy and can only dream about. 15 AFL clubs average more than 20,000 fans to home games this season. How many can do it in the NRL? 1?

Even if the NRL had the 'hard core' group in Sydney that the AFL does in Melbourne it will still struggle to match the AFL in crowds. A major reason for that is that the NRL doesn't understand what the fans want at games.

Give me the set up and the 'fan interaction' of a Storm home game (ie. Round 26 vs The Sharks) over the stupid fan interaction we got at the first final Vs the Cowboys. AAMI Park games should be focused on the Storm and include great initiatives like our pre-game 'black out', instead of silly 'decibel' crowd cheers for both teams, especially when you can't tell the difference between Cowboys and Storm supporters when everyone is yelling anyway.

Who do you think bank rolled the expansion teams in afl?

The fact that they have 5 melbourne based teams with huge membership bases from the 60s on is what has driven the afl

Sharks fans basically sold out the remaining presale tickets after Friday night. Only the grossly overpriced ones remain.

Well both prelims exceeded expectations

Sharks V Cows 36k
Melb V Raiders 28K

And no doubt the GF will get 82-83k

Is this some sort of record for finals overall?

Booked a bus on Saturday night to come up. Got tickets to the AFL GF too but found a way to swing it. Flights way too expensive haha

2014 from top of head, the prelims got 53k and 46k, both at ANZ. GF would have got the usual 82k or so.

True - I went to Souths v Easts in 2014 where there were 53k of us, but tbh 36k at Allianz feels like a bigger crowd than 53k at ANZ.

A relatively poor final series this year means the year's total will be 20k less than last year or -0.75%. The worst in more than 10 years
AFL will finish down 8k or -0.1% the worst since 2002
The AFLs brave expansion move of 5 years ago may well have substantial results over the next few years

The crowds this weekend have been ok. Any less would have been unacceptable. The NRL is very lucky it wasn't Raiders/Cowboys in Sydney, as it could have been. That would have been embarrassing.

Of course they now have to sell the gf out. Surely enough neutrals will turn up.
