I would hope the "varying reasons" aren't named Bennett, McGregor, Green & Hasler.

Wouldn't put in past Bennett. Ridiculous if true for the others though.

I wonder if Mead is already regretting jumping ship?

Blow for PM’s 13

KUMULS David Mead, Nene Macdonald, Ray Thompson and Rhyse Martin will not be play for the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister’s 13 against Australia’s PM’s 13 on Saturday in Port Moresby.

Mead, who captained PNG to a 22-24 win over Fiji in May, will not play due to a finger injury (ligament damage) that may require surgery.
The former Gold Coast Titans star is expected to see a specialist today about the injury suffered in round 21 against the Cronulla Sharks.

According to PNG Rugby Football League chief executive officer Bob Cutmore, the four men are unable to turn out for PM’s 13 side for a variety of reasons.
“David’s in the process of switching clubs and he’s got that injury he needs to attend to so he won’t be coming up,” Cutmore said yesterday. “Nene (moving to Sydney to play for St George Illawarra) is in the similar situation. He’s moving clubs and it’s a hectic time for him coming off a long season.”

Martin, who was signed by the Canterbury Bulldogs earlier this month, has work commitments and is in the process of transitioning from being a Townsville-based part-time player to an NRL professional.
The 23-year-old was named the Intrust Super Cup’s best forward this year and would have been a great inclusion in the PNG back-row, especially after missing the May test.

Cutmore said Thompson was part of the North Queensland Cowboys squad that was in the NRL finals and was not available.

David Mead, Nene Macdonald, Ray Thompson and Rhyse Martin all pulling out is suspicious especially when it comes to playing against Kangaroos
They come up with excuses

I guess this years match won't be televised again.A shame because I reckon if the NRL put this on Ch9 up against the AFL grand final next year it would smash it in the ratings, also taking viewers away from the AFL in the annual dick measuring competition about who's grand final rates better.

EVERY year the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII plays against Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby at the end of the season.

Game day is always special. NRL players who are lucky enough to get the chance to play in the annual fixture always speak about the incredible atmosphere born out of the sheer passion the locals have for their rugby league.

The stadium is packed, the noise is deafening and you can see the joy Papua New Guineans get from watching their sporting heroes from Down Under written all over their faces from miles away.

But this is something else.

The PM’s XIII touched down in the PNG capital roughly 48 hours before game time and already they could see just what their stay in the Pacific would be like.

Thousands of screaming fans crammed outside the airport to get a glimpse of the footy stars. They squashed close together near the exits, flattened themselves up against the windows of the team bus and even climbed high on top of ledges to get the best view possible.

Roosters back-rower Boyd Cordner uploaded footage of the team’s arrival on Instagram, as did Dragons and NSW forward Tyson Frizell.

Someone in Frizell’s video can be heard saying “Holy crap” in reference to the crazy scenes when they managed to pile into the bus.

That there was this much action well before the game is played is incredible. Can you imagine something like that ever unfolding for a visiting team at an Australian airport well in advance of the actual match?

The two teams will do battle on Saturday, and Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga has made no secret of the fact that the clash will be used as an official trial for the 24-man Four Nations squad to be announced next month.

Greg Inglis will captain the side.

“Greg is an outstanding leader and his selection in the team and as captain shows the mindset I have around this game,” Meninga was quoted as saying by NRL.com.

“I want to select the strongest team possible. All players who play in the Prime Minister’s XIII game will be genuine chances of playing in the Four Nations.”

Kick off in a hour. Seems to be a real backlash on social media that there is absolutely no coverage of this game available.

It would have been a perfect lead in to the Melb v Canberra game.
